    Will Patrick's proposed budget work?

In the budget he unveiled earlier this week and began championing inhis annual State of the State address last night, Governor Deval Patrick included apolitical wish list of expanded social and law enforcement programs, depending heavily on possible casino fees and new tax revenues frombusiness that have uncertain prospects among lawmakers.

Do you think his budget proposal is realistic?

There are more leaks in Patrick's budget proposal than there were in the Big Dig. DiMasi is plugging them one by one by sending them to Committee. How long before Patrick's men will find a nice cushy, high paid job somewhere in the private sector for DiMasi? By that time, we will be so far in debt beacuse of all the other stupid programs Patrick is pushing through (e.g. Health Insurance), it won't matter because we will be bankrupt. And if a Dem gets in the White House, kiss your profits goodbye.

I am much older, than the days, of mike dukarkis,

who, I though was the best con man , ever elected, he

did great things, with smoke and mirrors, creative acounting

schemes etc. I now realize, our present govenor, is indeed the

con man of great con men, move over mike, you have been

replaced. only a democratic governor, could do this, only a man

with no thoughts on the working people, could come up with a

budget like this. My late uncle was right, when you get older

and you think , you have seen it all, a guy like patrick deval

comes around, only thing I can say, I didnt vote for him, for

you that did, thanks very much, for your stupidty

No it won't. AND all of you Obama, Hillary, Edwards supporters, who think being a junior senator and never managing, running, or being the excecutive of anything, ever, should take note of what happens when you take someone with no management experience and make them a top executive.

Please vote for qualified people for these positions. We all deserve better than UNQUALIFIED people running our federal and state governments.

Massachusetts is nothing more than a stopover for Deval on his way to the White House. Just like Romney..... let's do ourselves a favor and stop voting for these carpetbaggers that don't care what happens to Massachusetts. Thanks Deval.

Will his budget work? No. All of you liberal lemmings will continue to vote in the likes of Deval, Kerry, Kennedy, Dimasi et all. You get what you deserve. You wonder why MA is losing 4% of jobs per year. Its because of us. We vote them in, complain, and vote them in again. You know what these people stand for. Dont vote for hope, vote for change. Get rid of these bureaucrats. And let them take the illegal (yes ILLEGAL) immigrants with them.

to the contary, I am not bitter, but I am concerned, for the future, which looks bleak, more taxes, more fees, being retired, in massachusetts, is difficult to say the least. my kids have all left the state, lots of friends, have left too. I will remain here till the end, its my home. funny dont hear the deval people, defending this crazy budget. by the way , will you buy a new car, house, on the money you might get say from winnings at the casino. I am just curious, how this snakeoil way to fix the budget, is defended, anyone have kids, how about there life here. is your idea of good goverment, the idea of fake dreams, instead of sound management. if it is , you day and life has been for filled.

Of course his budget won't work. As you write in the article the casino bill and the associated revenue won't even be realized until long after this budget is in place.

I didn't read anything about elimination of redundant Agencys or departments. I didn't see anything about pushing Flagmen instead of cops on road details. I didn't see anything about cuts anywhere except on those businesses that bring jobs and keep the economy afloat in this state.

My prediction is that he is biding his time and waiting for Washington to call. If a democrat gets elected president, they will be looking for "minorities" to fill key positions and he will resign to go to Washington. Obama will surely take him and if Billary gets in, she will still be looking for that minority touch in her cabinet.

I didn't vote for him but was willing to give him a shot. He has proven he hasn't got a clue. The Caddy, the drapes, the budget? This is only the beginning for this guy.

Sounds like Patrick's developed a case of Romney-flu. The inability to stay home and work. That's what happens when slogans become the campaign. Romney had his big broom and now it's together we can. Can't we all just dump everyone and start over?

Great point!!! But let's not dwell on the past. Mitt Romney isn't walking through that door. We will have to find another way to balance the budget and hope the damage Deval does can easily be reversed by a qualified governor with fiscal experience and responsibility.

What is everyone disgruntle about here? I just read the two first proposals in his budget (education and Local Aid and Property Tax Relief) and I don't see what could possibly tick you off. This is pretty in line with his campaign promises... Increase funding for education and try and find ways to ease the burden set forth by property taxes. I don't see this as a major change of strategy on his part. I'll read on.

Just so you know the growth number you are refereing to relates to years when Romney was governor and unable to stimulate the economy following the 2001 bust. In the past year, there have actually been new modest growth in MA's job creation. But please use innacurate numbers to make your point.

Also guess, which state created the most jobs after the 2001 bust?

The answer is Nevada. Interesting isn't it?

Just out of curiosity, what exactly was so bad about Mitt Romney as Governor other than the fact that he was a Republican and every effort he put forth was hysterically blocked by the Liberals and Dems? I'm serious, I'd like to hear some specifics, not vitriolic hate and tantrums but legitimate examples backed by data. And for the record, I'm an Independent which means I vote for the person I feel is best qualified and not a party's ridiculous rhetoric. So there it is...let's hear it...

What was so bad about Romney?

Universal Health Care: a simple giveaway to the insurance industr and instead of regulating the industry, he deregulated it even further allowing the health insurances for example, to charge you even more.

Taxes versus fees: Ran on a campaign promising no taxes increases and pulled the wool over most everyone's eyes by raising fees instead. This translated into higher fees to register a gun, your boat, get a driver's license, taking the bar, etc.

Continues to lie about reducing the state's deficit
: The budget's deficit was estimated to be $3 billion dollars when Romney took office, yet it only ended up being $1.3 billion because of a surge in capital gains tax revenues.

Job creation: Between 2003-2007, MA lagged the U.S.average and was actually 49th in the country during that period. We rose to 15th in 2007.

Need I continue. There's plenty more...
