Yesterday was the greatest day of my life - I didn't get picked to be on a jury.

Yesterday was the greatest day of my life - I didn't get picked to be on a jury.

Whew.  What a load off my mind that was.

The case is pretty basic;  you got some moron who mugged another person. ( A man ) The witnesses who were to testify at this trial are three Salem cops who arrested someone who stole money. And the defendant's two ( who I assume were ) character witnesses.

My guess is they weren't going to say that he was with them the whole time and that it must have been someone else ( someone they knew or not ).

So. Surprise, surprise,  the guy's pleading not guilty.   I'm sitting there ( in the Lawrence Superior Court ) thinking what;  is this guy kidding;  is he going to claim mistaken identity?  Someone put the gun in his hand?   The cops have it in for him ( ala. OJ./Rodney King )?

99.9999% ( and a few more 9's ) of all robbery suspects are guilty.
    It's that simple.

The defendant was black, ( no worries; I'm black so there's no racial element to how I felt about the case ) his hair was " dreadlocked " and he wore an ugly lime green suit ( dress shirt and tie I presume the lawyer got for him; white guy of course )

The prosecutor was a middlesex county prosecutor; I was sitting way in the back so it was hard to tell if she was hispanic or asian;  the only thing I could tell was that she was two steps above midget class.

I thought; why is a Middlesex County prosecutor trying a case that happened in Salem in a Lawrence Superior Court?   Middlesex should be every city from Malden and Waltham south.  Essex should be north. And any crime that happens in a particular city should be tried in that city.

On the other hand I thought; maybe the cases are so backed up these days they must be tossed all over the state.

One other guy besides me who hated being there was some bald guy wearing white shirt and shorts;  " let's get it together up there "   referring to a few mistakes the court officers were making shuffling people from the gallery to the witness stand during jury voir dire.  " everyone, please "  the co's shouted.

I drew number 62.  Everyone from 1 to about 47 went up.  About 10 people got tossed.   " ladies and gentlemen we have our jury, everyone else is excused "

Ten seconds later I was out the door thinking; it's too bad I couldn't get paid for waking up wicked early, dragging my sorry body to some far out hell hole ( Lawrence ) for jury duty.

Only if people work do you get one paid day and only if you get picked the court pays people if a trial lasts 3 days.  With all the money the government ( state and federal ) blows on garbage you'd think they could toss people like me a few bucks.   $700 would be nice.

As far as non-bias; I left a small window of possibility any accused person is either innocent or guilty.

But having said that; based on what I saw in the court room I'm neither stupid or naive.

As far as what I say about cops;  yeah I hate white cops but that doesn't mean I don't believe for the most part they " get it right ".

As far as being paid.  The government is 14 trillion and counting in debt.  99.999999% of what is spent is borrowed money.

I don't see how it's better to threaten people with a $2,000 fine if they do blow off jury duty instead where you can offer incentives and enticements like a nice $500 check to all who show up on time and are not picked.

( 500+ for those who are picked and serve one and more days on a jury )

Wow..I would not want you sitting on a jury..ever. So basically..you decided guilt or innocence of the defendent before you had actually heard any of the evidence..yes..I am sure you would be a joy on any jury.
I have never had jury duty in my life ..but if I ever do..it is certainly something I would take seriously.
It's no big deal that a prosecuter from middlesex county was trying the case. There could be a dozen reasons for it that are no one's concern. Incidentally..Lowell..just to the west of the Lawrence area is part of Middlesex county as well.

Evidence?   Let me tell you what the evidence is;  a gun and a pile of money.
    I didn't get picked on the jury; but even if I had; I'd be waiting to hear about the magical elves who deposited both the gun and the money in his pocket;

while the big bad white  salem police officers barge in his house;  find the gun and the money and whisk him off to jail while he screams bloody murder.

Yeah if you morons want to believe there's another possibility to that scenario;  you're also the same type of morons who would let a bodybuilder fireman keep his precious disability benefits claiming aches and pains.

God this state is a complete joke.

And you dopey morons make it suffocating to intellectually breathe around here.

You know I'm actually surprised you morons don't wonder why I would side with this criminal if you  think I believe in white police corruption 24/7.

You should be proud of me in believing that 99 out of 110 cases of crime and arrest; the police get it right.

I recently did the same thing, although that case was much more serious in nature than a simple mugging.

Not getting picked because you're name starts with a letter towards the end of the alphabet is not something to be proud of and really not something worth bragging about.
And it certainly isn't respectfull (and in the case I was on the jury pool for, legal) to post the aspects of the case.
You did your duty as a juror. Leave it at that.

All this thread tells me is that the voter rolls are chock full of people too stupid to deserve the privilege.

In that fireman/fraud case; the jurors should have came forward and confessed their complete stupidity.   They should have found him guilty.   End of story.

    Next case on the docket.

But instead; they'd rather swallow a banquet of B.S.,  loopholes, innuendo, delusional belief and bold face lies.

Casey Anthony and a couple of terrorists who get off on stupid juries don't make the public have confidence in the system when they don't feel safe knowing evil is let out of jail to be among them.

Isn't that the whole point of the system?
    Belief that the process works?

    Or is it a joke?

Casino gambling makes better believers out of people down on their luck.

I seem to remember reading on one of your previous threads that you also dislike black people.

Anyone else remember which thread it was?
