I went to a Chevy dealer for an Oil change.
They showed me three major faults.
Exhaust manifold bolts broken was the major one > have to pull the engine.
oil pipe on motor, sleeve on steering needs welding. Total $1734.
I was going to pass on repairs until he said the manifold wouldn't pass inspection.
I asked the mechanic how found them. He said these are common on Chevy Trucks.
My family has foreign cars 7<>8 yrs never had any problems.

I used to work for a company that supplied parts to GM. Employees got 25% discounts on GM vehicles. Most employees still bought Japanese, even though they got no discounts.

I remember in the late 90's I studied a lot of Chilton's repair manuals on car engines; specifically the Nissan Sentra ( 88-92 ) the Maxima compared to Ford; GM and other brand engines.
The reason american cars faulter is the parts themselves. Some foreign cars are assembled with non-specific and less complicated parts,
American cars have all the specificity in the world; mainly due to the games designers play over patents. Special covers and interface, interlocking mechanisms.
