Re: FORUMS ARE FIXED

The service may be free, but every time a poster logs in, boston.com makes money. Those with just the "free" service get very little news for their time.
As for the deleted posts, I agree the actual percentage that should have been deleted is really quite low. As for suspensions, not only does BDC not usually tell the suspended poster why they were suspended I believe they should me mandated to tell the whole forum as well as give the suspended poster a suspension and then re-instate them.
This forum had has been bleeding posters the last few years until now it is down to just a handful of regular posters.
As the poster above stated, BDC continues to make promises, and they continue to ignore them. I think the promises were just to placate the forum members.
On the macro level, unlike the success that has gone with the change with the Sox forum...BDC kicked out Both the outside mods as well as the Head of Articles and forums... this forum has continued to deteriorate.IMO either this forum needs to be changed, and changed quickly to the Sox set-up OR another major overhaul needs to be effected.
The way it is set up now the combination of the anonymous outside moderators and the not anonymous Head of Article Comments and forums have absolute power and it shows. It has become incredibly corruptive.
It is trite and old but " Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
Lastly, I do not know who is the latest suspended poster, but good luck trying to get an answer as to why you were suspended nevermind asking to be re-instated after a period of time.
As long as this forum is saddled with an anonymous outside moderation company AND a Head of Article Comments and forums, both of whom seem to be accountable to nobody, nothing is going to change.
At the very least, a start would be making those moderators a little less anonymous. In the Sox forum, there are two...Mod. 1 and Mod. 2. Here, each moderator could be given a number. Mod #1-X.
Every time a post is pulled, the space would read, "this post was removed my Moderator #X. That would give us an idea which moderators are doing the most pulling...esp. those who are not reading the posts. For example, the posts that are pulled that are just articles with links. Now they would have a Mod's number attached to the removal.
Also. poster X was suspended by Moderator#X.
In addition, BDC needs to have a sort of ombudsman for the posters. Someone who is clearly on the posters' side. Someone who will make sure certain things are done much better...not just lip service.
If changes are not made, I am fairly sure this forum is going to dwindle to nothing unfortunately.
