You must be joking. This may be new in the UK..but in the US..these statistics have been shared for decades..I repeat...decades..with the government. Doctors are not giving personally identifying information..they simply provide the data. This data is used to track trends in public health. How do you think they get the information for the reports they publish about what regions have the most overweight people...or which regions consume the most alcohol..etc..etc. Where did you think this information came from..?? Did you think it fell from the sky magically..?

The statistical data sharing has been happening for decades.Electronic records are something different...and something I support 100%. Much safer for patients..more streamlined system. It benefits doctors and patients alike and will reduce errors. And yes..it makes the reporting of statistical data much easier. The Dr. is still not sharing any personally identifying information with anyone without your consent. You have heard of HIPPA...haven't you?

OMG! It's so terrible that when I go in to get medical aid that doctors might be able to access
my medical records via the internet as opposed to waiting for someone to procure them from some paper file! Oh, Lord! God forbid that my life might be saved! Oh, no! I'd rather die than have my personal medical information immediately available while I have some sort of terrible reaction to medication that my paper files could have avoided! Oh, no! I'd rather wait to get a blood test to determine my blood type than to get a prompt and life saving blood transfusion! -
