Rubio was spot on in his message; but he appeared to succumb to the pressure of the event as a screen test for 2016.  I was surprised how hurried he seemed and the nervous tick he had of touching face or temple 3 or four times and then the Poland Spring sip was like amateur hour, where was his media guy that never should have happened.

I refused to watch the Tea Party response, as it was irrelevant.

If he had anything of substance to say we wouldn't be talking about his stage performance and btw he is a Tea Partier !

Well, it would be tempting to use the liberal 's all-purpose Obama "racism" template here....you know, using the irrelevant issue of skin color as an all purpose immunity from any criticism, by smearing the critic as 'racist'...

Any and all critics of Rubio can then be nastily smeared as "racist anti-Latinos"...

"Isnt it obvious, no other Senator has ever been subjected to such criticism..of course it is because he is a Cuban!"

    Re: And now, Senator Rubio...

    In response to airborne-rgr's comment:

Here's my imagined version of how his speeches are written: Milton Friedman's Free to Choose is condensed into a Reader's Digest article; that article is summarized in a standardized test for fifth graders with all the words above their reading level replaced; the students are asked to highlight the most important passages on their test sheet; those passages are copied onto note cards and sent to Florida, where they are focus-grouped on conservative octogenarians; the cards that test as most "familiar" are sent to the Rubio communications shop in D.C. and mashed up with whatever Ronald Reagan lines are on BrainyQuote.com.

    Voila! A speech.

Obama's speech had the same worn class warfare cliches used by Democrats since about 1932...FDR could have presented it:

    "wealthy pay their fair share"

    "tax cuts for the rich"

Along with the idiotic fools-no-one use of the term "investment" for "spending"...

Class envy and excuses to grow the liberal God of Government...same old, same old..

The outline of a pillar of Sen. Rubio's future campaign -- victimization?  The loyal opposition needs to get past this theme, too.  He's better than this, unlike the precedents (Justice Thomas, Ms. Palin, Rep. Bachmann, Mr. Cain, the not-a-witch woman).

ComingLiberalCrackup/BetheKoolaid might note the tone of the posts in this thread, verbal versions of the forehead smack, from various sides.  Beyond this thread, the vast majority of the responses around the country to the whole night of State of the Union address and Sen. Rubio's speech focus on the water bottle.  It's either making fun or the best-defense-is-an-offense attempt at distraction displayed by ComingLiberalCrackup/BetheKoolaid.  But the water bottle definitely eclipsed the messages.

ComingLiberalCrackup/BetheKoolaid ought to be glad.  Advantage: Gov. Jindal.  Maybe even Gov. McDonnell.

My point was that even the mildest criticism or ridicule of Barack Obama has been categorized as "racist" by his defenders..... But you are right, Rubio and conservatives are better than this...

Of course, Rubio's water bottle sip eclipsed what he said...that is our liberal media at work...

State Run Media CNN put up a headline, "Career-Ender?"

Any perceived threat to Obama and liberals, will get this treatment. CNN has been literally obsessed with Christie's weight. Romney was knocked by such trivia as 'dog on the car roof carrier' and the size of his garage...the usual deflections.

Tweets or Twitter or whatever etc. were immediately very well out ahead of the mainstream media.

At least he owned it, tweeting the water bottle, unlike the cleanup crew in the national sales forces and here.

You are absolutey shameless in the nonsense you spew.  You know that what you have said is not true.  But to you, the rant is key, the truth quite secondary.

    We need more like that.

You forgot to include "unthinking ideologue and general dolt" to the description.  And we have too many of them.
