Give him a chance? People got so caught up with the novelty of electing a black President that this became a feel-good journey, not a roll-up your sleeves and get to work mentality. I don't vote for someone because of the color of their skin, I vote for the most qualified person who understands the reality we are in and has a plan that gears into that reality and drives change.

Obama didn't have the appropriate experience, he doesn't understand the reality we face as Deval Patrick didn't and we now see he can't keep any campaign promises, and the 1 trillion of new spending he is proposing we don't have unless we borrow deeper into our future. McCain had the appropriate experience, knew that increasing taxes and out of control spending would dig us deeper into the hole we were in and he planned to lower corporate taxes to take some of the load off of our industrious people who generate jobs. By expanding our companies opportunity to earn more, they would have created more jobs and more jobs means more opportunities and more opportunities means a middle class.

I didn't vote for McCain because I am a racist. The feel-good "There is no mountain that we can not climb" is theater, it is what Academy Awards and sappy, teary movies like "Beaches" are about. Obama didn't pay the price, get the appropriate experience to be worthy of the highest office.

If Obama had integrity he would not have voted to fund over $300 Billion to the War, to vote to confirm Condi Rice to Secretary of State, and would have been critical of Colin Powell for being the person who actually "lied" to the rest of the World when he put his word on the line when he spoke to the United Nations and pledged that there were in fact Weapons of Mass Destruction. I believed Colin Powell because I thought he was a man of integrity. If he lied, he deserves shame. If he actually had intelligence to support that positon then Barack Obama's position about going to War does not hold water because if it was enough information to convice Colin Powell and Codi Rice, and Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, John Kerry, etc. how would it not convince Barack Obama? The arguments for Obama are not congruent. Biden said Obama wasn't qualified and was asked if he stood by his statement in a debate and then he said "Yes". Now did Obama suddenly get more experience once he chose Biden? No, Biden threw his integrity out the window when he got an opportunity to be VP. If Biden truly thought that Obama wasn't qualified, he should not have supported him. As far as the Press and John Kerry, they said that John McCain "changed". They said he changed because they flip flopped on their support for him. John McCain went to bat for John Kerry when Kerry was being swiftboated. McCain went against his own Party in an election year to support Kerry. What did Kerry do in return? He made jokes about McCain saying that he wore "Depends" underwear. This is a man who wore our Nation's uniform and was tortured for 5 years. We discraced that man for some unproven lightweight that gave a good speech and gave us a fairytale to believe and feel good.

Ok, all you blind flag waving, shaved headed neo-con/nascar dads with your camouflage/fatigue cloths driving your SUV/ hummer, shouting “support our troops” and “kill them all and let god sort them out”, testosterone laden angry white men, with your locker room mentality, who are the sorriest excuse ever seen for the male species:
You had your 8 years, you had you time in the lime light.
Now it is time to step aside, admit that boy bush is a buffoon, realize that it will take decades to un-do the damage he has done. It’s our turn now!!!
And if any republican or the republican party even has to ask themselves/it self, “where did we go wrong?” Then you really have not been paying attention.

I'm overwhelmed by the victory and deeply, deeply pleased and hopeful. I truly believe from the depths of my soul that Obama will be a great president, along the lines of JKF and FDR.

We've come so far as a nation and and we're on the verge of an exciting new journey. Perhaps in my lifetime, racist attitudes will finally be held only by the smallest minority of the ignorant in this country, and they will be shunned for their small-mindedness and treated with disdain like the KKK and skin-heads.

Let's unite and give Obama our support, prayers, and encouragement for the good of our nation and the good of the world.

A lot of the posts on this thread, from both sides, are pretty disappointing. Where is name calling on either side going to get us? I voted for Obama and was actually willing to give McCain a chance in the very beginning, until he brought around Mrs. Palin who was way too extreme for my taste.

Voting for Obama does not mean I think he's perfect and life will be sunshine and rainbows from now on. We just have to hope for the best and keep fighting for what we believe in. Calling people names and getting fatalistic about the so called terrible freeloaders of society getting handouts (god forbid we help anyone!) isn't very productive.

I was unhappy with the past two elections (the first ones I could vote in) and heard a number of times "if you don't like it leave" or "if you don't support the president then you're non American". I guess the tables have turned now and it's not so pleasant, is it? Trust me, we all know how it feels. We all have had our candidates win and lose at some time or another. Hoping for Obama to fail is not the best way to support our country or your own ideals. If McCain won I wouldn't have been pleased but I certainly hope I wouldn't have acted so childish and bitter.
