    This issue again.

    This has nothing to do with liberals or activist judges or "having more rights" than ordinary citizens. It has to do with psychology.

    I am not well up on the psychology, but my basic understanding is that this is a severe disorder in which the person feels permanently out of place - in the wrong skin.

    If that's accurate, then not treating it would be rather like not treating shizophrenia or other medical conditions. And if the United States Supreme Court has held that not treating such conditions is cruel and unusual punishment...... 




    A sex change operation for prisoners is NOT the same as "shizophrenia or other medical conditions" by any rational human beings standards!
