FOX NEWS GUEST TELLS FEMALE HOST TO QUIT GET MARRIED HAVE BABIES AND THANK MEN

Fox News guest tells female host to quit, get married, have babies and ‘thank men’   By David Edwards
Sunday, December 8, 2013 14:43 EST Fox News host Anna Kooiman

Fox News host Anna Kooiman was advised by anti-feminist crusader Suzanne Venker to quit her job and get married because women should spend more time “thanking men” for the ability to stay home and take care of children.

In a column on FoxNews.com last week, Venker — who is Phyllis Schalfly’s niece — argued that today’s women had been deluded into thinking that they could live without a husband.

During an interview with Venker on Sunday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson was totally on board the premise of the column because he said, “I rely completely on my wife.”

But Kooiman wanted to know how the philosophy applied to a career-driven woman like herself.

“I’m single, I’m 29, I’m very career oriented,” Kooiman explained. “What’s your advice in just a couple sentences?”

“My advice is, as the years go on and you find that you want, if you do, to get married and settle down, to understand time is going to be your greatest enemy,” Venker opined. “Not your husband, not men, not the government, not your employers. It’s time, there’s just not enough time in the day to do everything.”

“So if you learn to embrace that side of yourself that isn’t about work,” she continued. “In other words, the nurturing side, the motherhood, all of that. It’s okay to let your husband bring home that full-time income so you can have more of a balanced life.”

“And we should really be thanking men for this, not saying they’re in our way or not doing enough.”

Host Clayton Morris concluded by thanking Venker for writing the column because “there’s not one thing in here I disagreed with.”

Or, another GOP attention-seeking etc. Okay, you got my attention.

Suzanne Venker has written several books, makes regular TV appearances, and is a contributor to Fox News on-line.  ie....she works full time.   According to her own biography, she has two school aged children, and she argues that having "demanding careers and young children are incompatible."    In other words she's just another hypocritical self righteous woman who rakes in the money telling other women to give up their ambitions.    Feel free to ignore her advice.......she does.

The economy would grind to a halt if women took her advice enmasse.  Not only is her view impractical it flies in the face of what is a logical conclusion to a capitalist system in a country where the economy is powered by the consumer.  American women have spoken and they have decided that the former roles society deemed fit for women to occupy is no longer compatible for every woman.  Some women don't want to have to children, others want to establish their careers before having kids, some women want to have children and maintain their careers, still others are content to be homemakers.  And each is entitled their preference.

Except the Fox news guest did not tell the host ANY of these things...

It is easy, just ignore the word "if" , and then you can get the faux outrage going..

As to the point about "demanding careers and young children are incompatible." . Ask women about that issue;  it is extremely difficult and demanding...time is the issue, "there is not enough time to do everything"   . It is not a political question.

What is the matter with this guy? Women should have babies, THEN get married, maybe. Some day men will be forced to stay home and have babies just like women because we are all the same! Value diversity!

These are the same people complaining when poor women have too many babies and are unable to work...therefore, they become too dependent and gain too few employable skills.

Someone referred to it as "right-wing social engineering"....

Even more irritating is how these same people also want to cut back or destroy the safety net for single mothers, deny to pay women the same amount as men for the same job, want to charge them more for health insurance and care...and in extreme cases, not even allow them to vote.

They often view women as obstacles to be overcome, not opportunities to be encouraged.

Pretty sure she was talking about married women...but sure...let's change the subject to single mothers.

Why haven't the Dems secured and guaranteed equal pay for men and women in the past? Surely there have been plenty of times where the Dems controlled Congress and could have pushed something through. Why haven't they? Why haven't the champions of equal pay gotten in done in the past?

    CLC,

And this is how a women's career gets side tracked. How she gets put on the "mommy track".

It is hard enough to break the glass ceiling in certain professions. In a lot of professions.

Now try doing it after taking time to have one, two, three babies. Be out of your profession until they are all in school.

Do the math. That is a lot of years. Years other women kept rising as well as the men whose wives stepped out had the children and raised them.

It also has puts the family in economic peril. When the husband is the sole provider, his bosses know they have him by the you know what.

Great book is "The Myth of the Two Income Couple". It examines these issues including how much more does the second income really add to the economic partnership that is part of marriage.

Marriage is a social contract, a legal contract and an economic partnership. Too many women, just as smart, driven and educated as their husbands have had their careers totally sidetracked with this kind of "social engineering".

This also illustrates the need for a pre-nup. If this happens, the wife's earning potential is far less then her husband's. Sort it out before in case the marriage does not last.

It also protects the husband if they decide he is going to be a stay at home father since his earning potential will also probably dip while he steps out of the work world.

    46&2,

Even if the ERA was passed, if you have been out of your profession for years you are lower on the ladder that those who never stepped out to have children.

    Equal pay for equal work.

A lawyer with 3 years of experience in criminal defense work is not worth as much as a lawyer with 10 continuous years of work in the same field.

In a large firm, the 2nd lawyer should have made partner by then. The other lawyer would still be an associate if she were lucky enough to get back into a similar firm.

The topic is misogyny in social policy.

Sure, it took them a while, but they did it. (The Supreme Court helped.)

Only 3 repubs in the house voted for it and 4 repubs in the senate (all women).

(Of course, the repubs could have done it, too, if they wanted.  So, why didn't they?)

After all, how much time was spent discussing Mittens placement of his dog on the top of his car...here and elsewhere.

Probably too much, but, people were dead serious on that one.

And should I run into him, or someone in his family, I probably would not make any dog jokes.

I think Tagg is rearing up to run for something or other. My guess is dog jokes would not go over very well.

Btw, I do talk to Republicans. Even have voted for them. My best friend is a dead on Republican. And Catholic. That is an interesting relationship to have pulled off for years.
