Most of the people that rattle on about leaving the U.S. are from the poorer red states. Don't they realize that without the handouts from the rest of the nation they would be third world countries? States like Mississippi and Arkansas are barely squeaking by even with the federal government throwing money at them. They would be begging for foreign aid if they ever went it alone. Imagine the brain drain, too, when the people with education leave for the better opportunities in the U.S.

Maybe unless Texas, Louisinana joins them and then energy and foreign trade would be a huge commerce to them with about 6 deep water ports!

Seceding is not unconstitutional in fact it is a duty if the federal govt becomes NOT of the people and for the people or against life, liberty, and justice for all.

Secession is only legal if you win the war that follows.  Ask Jefferson Davis.

For me, having come from a red (cro-magnon beliefs) state - i say let 'em fly - just either rescue the citizens of Austin, Atlanta, Savannah, and NOLA or make them the same status  like HongKong was during its UK lease - but jokes aside - I would not object to a secession of Texas and Arizona and S.Carolina primarily, then the rest on a "lets-see" basis

    Wrong again spanky.

We are still dependent on coal for the majority of energy in the US.

And then there's the shale deposits in Appalachia, the oil boom in the Dakotas and Alaska.
Sorry to burst your kool aid bubble:

1.) Obama is out to kill the coal industry

2.) While our domestic production is at an all time high.. we ship most to China... forcing American consumers to pay more to import from the mid east.

    Thanks Barry Boy... you idiot-mo
Actually, liberals are out to kill the Coal industry before the coal industry kills the planet.

If Americans are paying more for oil from the Middle East than they would for domestically produced oil, then why wouldn't the domestic producers sell the oil to Americans at the price Americans are currently paying for Mid East Oil?

Could it be that the middle east oil is cleaner and of higher quality than the domestic oil, making it cheaper to refine into gas and other products?

Re: Good article on states and secession

Texas has their act together.  Really?

Texas ranks second in teenagers giving birth - 2nd to Mississippi.

Texas ranks at the bottom in SAT scores.

Texas ranks 30th in life expectancy - Cali ranks 3rd.

30% of the Population in Texas is considered Obese, compared to 24% in Cali.  In Mass, it's 22%.

Texas has a median family income of $58K.  In Cali, it's $65.5K.  And Mass, it's $80K.

And Texas is a net recipient of Federal Tax/Spending.  I wonder how much lower Texas will fall when that aren't being subsidized by people living in places like Massachusetts.

Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Kansas... let them go and then we can build that fence along the boundary to keep them out.

If those states seceded, the tax rate for the rest of us would drop.
