Reminds one of Sen. Helms blocking the nomination of Mr. Weld to be ambassador to Mexico when one senator could do so.

    In response to Newtster's comment:

Hagel was awful in his hearing, really disqualified himself on that alone, but the President holds on. There are more objections to him than this matter over his comment on Israel.

Evil = dogma? That's a laugh.  I guess it's dogma to oppose terrorist nations now? Who knew? Or do you support these terrorists?

Please.  The line of questioning was beyond ludicrous.

Sen. Cruz accused Hagel point-blank of taking bribes from North Korea and Saudi Arabia.  WTF!!

Yes, it's dogma when people use religious terms to describe political situations.  This is a cabinet appointment; it's NOT a battle of "good vs. evil", no matter how much some think it is.

Yes.. We used to be an ally with the nation of Isreal... until Obama sided with the Muslims.

I guess you'd say it's okay for the evil Dems to do it.

Yep, they're "evil" Dems....spoooky, huh?  Better get an exorcist or string of garlic or something.

It's simply beyond the pale, and some of the gopers have lost their minds in a cloud of fundamentalist religious insanity.

Cruz wouldn't know honor and duty if it smacked him in the face. He mouths platitudes, plays the game for his own advantage, and is more than willing to dishonor those who've done what he is obviously afraid to do himself, serving with distinction.

Ted Cruz  has been in the Senate for all of a about a month, but has already compiled an impressive voting record.  He is the only senator who has been on the losing side of every vote he has taken this term....0 for 11.

You might think he'd feel a little embarrassed by this self-marginalization, or worry that Texas voters will start to realize how far out of the mainstream he really is. But naturally, Mr. Cruz is proud of himself.

It's the SAME politics used by both sides.

    Not really.

Since when do Dems use scripture to oppose a perfectly rational cabinet appointment from their own party....?

all while paying allegiance to Israel over the needs of American soldiers.

Look.  Hagel is a bone-headed appointment.  The guy took money from Saudi Arabia and Hamas.  In the Bush years, that concept was akin to treason.  now, it's a hillary-esque "what difference does it make?"

Can we at least get someone who is with the program?

    A crooked republican YES man.

So much for gop's purported respect for 'reaching across the aisle', eh...?

Saudi Arabia is an ally.  We know by the way the King held hands with Bush so lovingly.

The Hamas thing is only a rumor.  Unsubstantiated.  But who cares when the meme is so juicy, right...?  You guys will believe anything.

That evil is a religious word to you is your problem. That is ridiculous.

THe fact that you and those that think like you cannot see it when it is as plain as the nose on your face is telling. And it is the reason this conflict goes on and on. The Terrorists get comfort and encouragement from people with your attitude. They are rewarded for their bad behavior.

ANd here is some more on you angel (oh, sorry for the religious conotation) Hagel:

He claimed the State Department was controlled by Israel. Right. THe State Dept. is like you, they can't see the idiocy in declaring Hamas a terrorist organization and not condeming Palestine as a haven of genocidal maniacs.

    http://freebeacon.com/report-hagel-said-state-department-controlled-by-israel/

Your nuance is getting in your way. You make something simple complicated.

"Evil" quite clearly denotes an element of morality, the province of religion for the religious-minded.  I get annoyed when people try to ascribe morality to political issues that are decidedly amoral in concept.  It's how people get too emotional over situations best handled rationally.

My whole point is that certain gop senators are using bible quotes to block a cabinet appointment purely out of a fanatical devotion to israeli concerns over american concerns.  It doesn't make any sense unless there are other motives.

I have no problem with what Hagel said, the actual quote being, "The State Department has become adjunct to the Israeli Foreign Minister’s office…"

But nobody can say why such a quote is any real reason for him not to get the job...again, unless they have other motives they're not expressing in public.  It's really no secret that the israeli leadership has had a direct influence on american foreign policy and not always to our best interests.

The GOP senators are the ones making a simple thing complicated.  Not me.
