A Tipping Point for Earmarks? Moratorium Looms in Congress

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/earmark-moratorium-republicans-poised-ban-pork-barrel-spending/story?id=12155964&page=1

How could this be? We were all told by a certain someone on BDC that earmarks would increase as a result of Reps taking over the house.
Senate Reps and House Reps are behind this....and ironically Senate Democrats have yet to signal whether they will join the cause.
    Another irony....

The move by Republicans will also likely add pressure on President Obama, who has said he supports "cracking down on wasteful earmark spending, which we can't afford during these tough economic times."

But he has not called for eliminating the practice outright or threatened to veto bills that include earmarks.

Neither has the GOP.  Jim Demint has asked that his party ban earmarks, Mitch McConnell was not on board with that, and still isn't.  His acceptance of a moriatorium is a stop gap measure.  However, I would think the pressure would still be on the GOP as they have made this an issue following their pickups a few weeks ago.

The GOP Senators have not agreed to an outright ban, which is what Demint has been pushing.  A nonbinding moriatorium is a bit of stones throw away from binding commitment to ban earmarks.  Do you disagree?

I would say that it would be delicious if he did, just to carry the joke forward but that sounds a little, er, well it wouldn't sound right.

Instead, I would like to state for the record that Jim Demint looks like the offspring of Jim Nabors and R Lee Ermey.

So by "matter of time" are you keeping this open-ended so 20-30 years from now if it happens you can say "I told you so". Care to tighten the timeline on this prediction of yours?

    Jimmah Bo,

I can only imagine you would prefer that money go towards... mmmm.. maybe increasing welfare.. or more food stamps... or giving a fat increase to the already overpaid federal employees... or a bigger chunk for unions.. or .. HEY.. lets subsidize some bozo official running for office in an African country who wants government funded abortions !!
Better yet.. Americans should pay for the worlds health care.. after all.. it's our fault.

    Ya twit!

Have a nice socialist state sponsored and taxed day comrade.

    This bears repeating...

Odd that when its republican and military pork, they are feeding the evil military industrial complex, but when its the 2 biggest dems in the senate doing it, its fighting for their constituents, eh?

McConnell went on record as saying he doesn't regret a single dollar of the more than $1 billion in earmarks he's brought home to ol' Kentucky since being a member of the appropriations committee.

I gotta tell ya...it's gonna be a wacky session....

Though I suppose it's better than saying 'millions of families starved to death last year because of cuts in public assistance'....

How could this be?  Easy - Call earmarks something else.

Put "GOP congressman said" in front of it, and Hawkeye will swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Is calling yourself Hawkeye like a bald man calling himself curly?

The moonbats are whipped up, they dont know how to react to politicians who keep their promises.
So it's the usual smoke and mirrors:
    "hypocrisy"
    "racism"
"people starving to death without food stamps"

I didn't know it was official. Could you supply a link to the formal process you speak of?
