GOP says the real State of the Union is "grave", but if elected, they can rescue it by not being obstructionists anymore.

We'll see who the obstructionists are when republicans hold the House and win the Senate.

Each political party tries to block stuff it doesn't like. Duh.

You are conveniently ignoring that what first earned the current GOP the name "obstructionist" is the memos circulated, leaked, and published, instructing the rank and file that the plan would be to oppose every Obama policy for the specific point of "breaking" him. Their word, not mine.

It's not simply that they decided they would fight against things they really really really didn't like as a matter of policy. It's that they decided to fight things, just to fight them, just so that Obama gives up and cries all the way home.

Go ahead, demand that I dig up the 2008-09 articles, if it helps you pretend I am making it up.

The first sentence worked just fine. We agree.

As far as, "just so that Obama gives up and cries all the way home.", take that up with him.

So you agree that this particularly, current GOP crop, really is "obstructionist" in a way unlike ordinary party opposition on policy grounds?

Because that's what everything after the first sentence we agreed on is about. The last few years have been more ridiculous on the opposition front than anything I seem to recall.

Basically I do agree, and simply said you'll see it again with a GOP Senate next year.

Remember when Tip and Reagan got things done?  Hell, even Clinton and Newt and Dole.

I'd like to see a return to that.

Hear Hear! When there were more in power concerned with the good of the country instead of what was best for themselves!!

GOP says the real State of the Union is "grave", but if elected, they can rescue it by not being obstructionists an...

In my 72 years, we have never before had such an obviously committed obstructionist Congress!  The goal of this Congress has NOT had our COUNTRY in mind at all.  Their SOLE purpose, stated frequently by many of them, was to make certain our President, Barack Obama, was only a one term president!  President Obama is considered black, even though he is equally white, but the racial prejudice within the Republican Party (actually, the "remnants" of that used to be "party") is so strong, they have lost sight of everything our country stands for, and have actually continued the devastation begun by Bush, leaving a bad taste in EVERYONE"S mouths!  President Obama is brilliant, with such a mature demeanor, that their failed party can't STAND all his accomplishments, putting them to shame!   Mitt Romney calls Obama's ideas in his SOTU address "fantasies"?? labeling himself with a closed, fatalistic, and narrow mind, losing his SECOND bid for the Whitehouse by himself. President Obama has 9 pages of his "Promises Kept" kept by Politifact, proving that he DOES follow through and keep his promises!

Romney almost made the BOTTOM of the list in job creation in the country, while he was Governor of Massachusetts.  He also changes his "principles" and standings on issues, according to whichever he thinks (oxymoron!) the audience wants to hear!  Nobody wants a wishy-washy guy with no real principles.

Oh now I wouldn't go there.

Perhaps some of the birtherism was motivated by race, but I don't see how the obstructionism can be explained by it.

The Republicans had enjoyed power and they wanted it back. They saw that Obama did not have political experience, so, they figured he was an easy target.

So they settled on an attempt to get power that was bad for all of us: Opposing everything he did, in the hopes that he gave up, failed, and then voters would turn back to a Republican in 2012.

"...grave..." "...Mr. Daniels..."  Apt.  Watching Mr. Daniels the other night was like watching a mortician.
