    Gun laws and terrorists

Remember when all of the wing nuts were going on and on about how the lack of border security made it easy for terrorists to get into the country and commit and act of terror?

How come the wing nuts aren't concerned about terrorists who enter the country legally buying Assault Rifles to use in a terrorist attack?  If the porous borders are a national security risk, then why isn't easy access to Assault Rifles a national security risk?

WHITE PLAINS, NY - A White Plains residence pinpointed on a controversial handgun permit database was burglarized Saturday, and the burglars' target was the homeowner's gun safe. There you go, you liberal media elitist morons - putting the public in grave danger to push your agenda. You made it EASY for criminals who cannot legally obtain firearms to find an easy supply.

    Re: Gun laws and terrorists

I'm not worried about terrorists getting assault rifles. They figured out how to get them long ago. They have no trouble obtaining weapons and supplies. I am not saying it is good, just that it is a foregone conclusion that the world has too many people who have bad intentions and we've past the point of stopping the supply lines. All that can be done is to identify these terrorists and either eliminate them or keep them in check. This is why we employ such skilled men as Navy SEALs...to counter the threat and minimize it.

The battle is long from over.

The threat that can be addressed better is to keep any kind of firearms ( especially assault weapons) away from people who are deranged or unstable. Yes, there are lots of them , many are not very dangerous until they have a gun. The psychotic people who are shooting up cinemas, schools and churches are preventable. Terrorist organizations are much harder to bring down, but they generally have more elaborate planning and a purpose to their mayhem. The psychotic people who are in possession of guns are more unpredictable and harder to control.

This is the threat we have been distracted from while we scrutinize every Arab or Arab-looking suspect. Sometimes the more dangerous people look like us and live next door.

I googled the story and only found echo chamber speculation.

Oh...and newspapers don't burglarize homes, people do.

Yes, that is true and is still the case.

"Assault rifles" have not been the terrorist weapon of choice in recent decades. They are not deadly enough to produce the amount of casualties that a terrorist would desire. But then again it's not really the weapon that we need to restrict, be that firearm, explosive, or airliner. A terrorist will obviously get access to whatever weapons that is needed. The trick is to track them and detain or kill them whereever possible and make trying to commit a terrorist act a losing proposition.

So, a crook randomly goes out into Whestchester county, armed with tools to break into a gun safe, picks a house at random, and miracle of miracles, it has a gun safe.

You were clearly born "last night".
