How will the media report on rising gas prices?
posted at 8/9/2012 10:08 AM EDT
When gas prices rose under the Bush administration the media tended to report on the issue as a personal economic problem, how it affected consumers and put pressure on households to make ends meet etc. When gas prices were rising earlier this year the media tended to focus on this as a macroeconomic issue, supply and demand, oil speculation and factors such as what was happening in the mideast dominated the media's coverage of rising gas prices. Now that we are getting closer to the election will we see the media cover rising gas prices and show what they are doing to the consumer or will we hear about it as a macroeconomic issue? -

Did you notice how gas prices fell after Obama ordered Holder to investigate if fraud or manipulation of the oil markets caused the price of fuel to rise?

Oh no thats from ATM's, Kiosks, FOX News, George W. Bush, Global Warming etc. As he likes to put it he "inherited" those conditions that are causing gas prices to rise right now. -

"The price of gas when Barry was sworn in was $1.79 a gallon"
2 replies to that. take your pick......
1) You mean the price of gas collapsed at the same as the economy. Who knew the Gas prices reflected the overall economy?
2) You mean that when the investment banks who were manipulating the oil futures market collapsed, the price of gas collapsed. -

President Barack Obama said Thursday that the Justice Department will try to "root out" cases of fraud or manipulation in oil markets, even as Attorney General Eric Holder suggested a variety of legal reasons may be behind gasoline's surge to $4 a gallon. from AP 4/21/2011
You'll notice the drop in gas prices from May 2011 through the end of 2011.
Also, notice how prices were still high in 2008 than are now.

"Could it be that demand across the globe is falling because of the lousy economy? Nah, it has to be Obama."
So the world Economy was great prior to April 2011 and bad afterwards? -

But, whatever you do, ignore market forces because they do not exist in the post-capitalist world. -

Oh Skeeter, you're getting confused again.
Capitalism, socialism, and free market, centrally planned
You can have capitalism or socialism with a free market.
You can have capitalism or socialism in a centrally planned economy.
And market forces always exist. -

YES!!! All things positive must be attributed to Obama and his brilliance that the media claims he possesses even without ever seeing his college records AND ALL things negative have nothing to do with Obama but just the chaotic world around him created by Eric Cantor and conservatives. That sounds about right, I feel that a statement made like that qualifies just about anyone to perform Jay Carney's job. -

Gas prices always rise in the summer months, thats how they will report it. Its a commodity whose prices are affected by seasonal changes that reflect higher usage. This is why natural gas, for example, is more expensive in the winter months.
Pretty simple stuff, y'all. -

Are the right wingies suggesting that energy prices have never been manipulated by companies led by republican supporters?
Can you can say Enron? And where are the people who were involved in manipulating energy prices at Enron? Did they suddenly see the error of their ways and decide to make amends by working for non-profits? or maybe they went to work for the investment banks who were looking for creative ways to make up from the lost revenue from the real estate market when the housing market started to plateau? Kind of odd that gas prices mysteriously rose when the economy started to get soft back in 2005/06.
And kind of odd that Gas prices fell sharply and deeply when the financial industry tanked. Yeah, I guess it could be a coincidence. -

OH HERE WE GO!!!!! Another MSNBC disciple hinting that gas prices are on the rise because of Bush's buddies, this guy could take Jay Carney's job or even better he could do Obama's job because that is all the blamer in chief does!

Never said the gas prices are on the rise because of Bush's buds. I said they did rise because of Bush's buds in 2006.
Is there is a brain defect that affects reading comprehension and makes people believe in right wing propaganda? Are people born with it or is it caused by head trauma (being dropped on their heads when they were a baby)? But more importantly, can it be cured with a dope slap upside the head?
