I believe that God created the universe

"What I've said to them is that I believe that God created the universe and that the six days in the Bible may not be six days as we understand it … it may not be 24-hour days, and that's what I believe. I know there's always a debate between those who read the Bible literally and those who don't, and I think it's a legitimate debate within the Christian community of which I'm a part. My belief is that the story that the Bible tells about God creating this magnificent Earth on which we live—that is essentially true, that is fundamentally true. Now, whether it happened exactly as we might understand it reading the text of the Bible: That, I don't presume to know."

    Barack Obama, April 13, 2008

I agree "Days" in the bibles definition may be millineums in our definition.

    Quote from WDYWN:

"And a final note: saying that the Earth was created either "seven days" or "seven eras" ago is NOT being inclusive or tolerant.

That view is bible-based, and excludes everyone else who says F that, radiocarbon dating indicates it's 5 billion years old, and our current understanding of gravity says the remnants of exploding stars and galactic dust slowly drew together over time and eventually....hey presto.

It also excludes religious people who don't take the bible literally, and ignore the bit about 7 days/eras, choosing to go with the far more rational conclusion that if the God they believe in exists, that God probably wouldn't make mathematics and physics a big joke on us."

Sadly, it seems that WDYWN has a big problem with Obama's belief system. I wonder how he can justify voting for such a non-inclusive politician?

Yah, but no worries.  like Obama's support of traditional marriage, we know he doesn't really believe it.

The operative question is:  what's a day?  24 hours is such a earth-centric view.

So unless you have proof of; Obama and the Dems trying to impose their religious beliefs into the school curriculae or The Dems trying to stop the free exercise of religion Then shut-the-freak-up.

    Shut up he explained.

Except that's not the problem Mr. Furious (say hit to "the spleen" for me!), there is absolutely no evidence that Rubio wants to impose his beliefs upon anyone. That is unless you think that just explaining the wide spectrum of belief systems are somehow imposing a particular point of view. The science can stand on it's own merits son, it doesn't need any help from you.

No, WDYWN is clearly upset about something else, he says "choosing to go with the far more rational conclusion that if the God they believe in exists, that God probably wouldn't make mathematics and physics a big joke on us."  See? He's upset that the very act of belief in a God puts math and physics at a disadvantage.

I wonder what Sir Isaac Newton would have thought of that?

    Hey spanky, this is what WDYWN was responding to;

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and I'm also not blind to the fact that Rubio is engaging in real diversity here and not stuck in the rigid dogma of the left.

"I think there are multiple theories out there on how the universe was created and I think this is a country where people should have the opportunity to teach them all."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is not a country where anything should be taught in schools just because someone believes it. Creationism is not a valid academic exercise for public schools. Such religious dogma is for the church not the classroom

Does the Constitution and SCotUS rulings vis-a-vis the seperation of church and state mean anything to the wingnuts?

WDYWN is disagreeing with faith based explanations of the universe as a substitute for rigorous scientific thought in public schools.

One reason is obvious; Which religious dogma would be taught? All of them? From creationism to wiccan to scientology to reincarnation to devil worship... ya can't teach one to the excluion of the rest. This is the reason we have 'seperation of church and state'.

    [/QUOTE]

We are a republic of fifty states. Why not each of them decide instead of a the federal govt?
