Russian TV, Jim Trafficant, Hamas or al-Jazeera (Gore TV)?

An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an argument made personally against an opponent instead of against their argument. Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as aninformal fallacymore precisely an irrelevance.

Gregin did not make an ad hominem argument.

His post went directly for your sources.

Good for you. You can use an online dictionary...not the topic.

Try again to answer his direct question.

he didn't pose a question, he is using ad hominem arguments to attack sources rather than the argument.

Ad hominem arguments are used to attack an opponent...not to attack sources by the definition YOU provided. (See above.)

Re: Israel issues 39 new demolition orders in al-Khalil

    In response to MrCricket's comment:

you should learn how to use an online dictionary.

rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question that is asked in order to make a point. The question is used as a rhetorical device, posed for the sake of encouraging its listener to consider a message or viewpoint. Though these are technically questions, they do not always require a question mark.

A rhetorical question really never requires a question mark. That is why it is derived from the word "rhetoric".

And look, ma, both posts without needing the use of an online dictionary. Wonder why that might be? Maybe an education similar to a lot of posters here in the forums.

the topic of the thread deals with israel/palestine. greg supports israel. whoever supports palestine is his opponent. greg is ignoring the argument posed by the sources via me and attacking them on a personal level. greg is using an ad hominem argument via rhetorical questioning.

First, I am very well versed in the use of online dictionaries...and hard copy ones for that matter.

Second, you are putting political viewpoints in Gregin's mouth.

Third, I am also well versed in rhetoric.

Try looking up the Socratic method. Look that up in an online dictionary.

But it will only give you a taste of what being run through the grinder with it does for improving your critical thinking as well as your ability to make valid, cogent debate points.
