Those scientists have nothing better to do then make up stories....right?

It's amazing how many people think Global Warming isn't for real. We can question the reasons why it is happening, but to deny that it is happeneing is just plain silly.

    On the contrary...

I've been working nearly around the clock since the storm to restore systems and applications for utilities clients from Maine to Virginia.

I finally got a break to come over and share some much-needed info.

    What's your excuse?
No excuse sweetie...

This is not a political thread unless it's pointed to how the Obamaites want to increase fuel taxes or how HE has plssed away tens of billions to his buddies cramming an inefficient green technology to loser companys which will only further increase energy costs.

Save a whale.. collect the whole set.
So, let's talk about them.

For example, as I mentioned elsewhere, one proposal to build sea barriers to protect New York Harbor and environs was estimated to cost $14B.  Damage from Sandy in the NY metro area ALONE is estimated to cost upwards of $50B.

If you want to deny the scientific evidence without corresponding evidence, go for it.  But you can't deny the bottom lines of insurers the world over who are and will continue NOT to underwrite policies for areas threatened by the same climate change you're denying.

In this perspective, things like a modest 1% gas tax, infrastructure spending and green energy projects are small potatoes.

You are bringing logic to a Wingnut fight.  Good luck with that.

The best part is the type of weather that the scientists said would happen is now happening and still the deniers deny.

The Scientists said prolonged heat waves, we just had the hottest 12 month stretch on record.  Droughts that ravaged agriculture in the midwest and led to record wild fires in the west.

The Scientists said warming ocean waters would lead to an extended hurricane season and now Sandy hits on Halloween.

Of course, "Weather is crazy" can also explain any weather occurence.

Let's not start this global warming cp*p as cause.

Start?  It never stopped, and isn't likely to anytime soon.  There is indeed both correlation and causation at work here.

The end results are - to quote Gov. Christie - "unthinkable".

Not debating the earth is warming, many agree it is. This planet has been around a long long time, its cooled its warmed, it seems to do this on it's own over millions and millions of years. That's all I'm saying.

Not sure about the alien thing???
But aren't climate changes due to some type of event?  Huge volcanic eruptions spewing ash into the atmosphere, large meteors impacting the planet, continents moving.

Climate change just doesn't happen.  It's not some magical force.  Climate change is the result of changes to the planet.  If climate change isn't the result of buring fossil fuels, then what's causing it?

Well wait...the planet has gone through all sorts of changes through the billions of years it's been around. How much fossil fuel do you think was being burned 200 years ago? 2,000?, 20,000?, 200,000? Well, you see where this is going.
No, I don't where this is going.

I bet that whatever historical climate change you name, climatologists can like some event to it.

Wood and charcoal are essentially fossil fuels, and burning them (at least twice in the case of charcoal) releases lots of nasty stuff into the atmosphere.

And then there are those volcanoes....

Lots of nature's processes are self-correcting, but the many variables make it very difficult to say how long they last and how extensive they are.

The question is: can humanity also self-correct?  If so, then how?  After all, we now live a lot longer and use a lot more resources throughout our lifetimes.

Unless, of course, you require some sort of proof that it's been caused by human activity. Sadly for warmists there isn't, there's only a theory that has bigger holes in it than Osama bin Ladin.

Think about it. No, REALLY think about it. Take off the political blinders and think about it. If global temperature was a direct function of the amount of CO2 in the air then we should be experiencing an almost geometric rise in global temperatures.

    We're not.

In fact global temperatures have been static for the last 16 years.

I agree. We do have a hand in this. But how much can we really do at this point? We still need to heat our homes in winter and cool them in summer. We predominately need to drive given how our infrastructure is. There is also China and India to worry about. We can do our part but we're not the only ones on his planet.
There's much we can do, at the very least to extend our existence enough to give ourselves a fighting chance.  Part of the point is that our needs are increasing so quickly that it's hard enough just to keep up with the changes occurring in real time.

To me, first order of business is to discuss it openly, unemotionally and honestly.  On that score, this whole campaign has been a bitter failure.  We shouldn't have to wait for an event like Sandy to re-jigger our focus on the problem.

Either way, denying the existence of the problem is less than helpful.

My question is why do we all have to work at the same pace as the slow kid?

The pacific is cooler, the atlantic warmer.  It is a 15 year cycle that has been going on for a looooong time.

To think that even Sandy is the "worst ever" is foolish self-centerness.  To think it is a result of man-caused global warming is just stupid.

Hey D...H... do you know what is worst than saying he wanted to eliminate FEMA. He wants to privitize it so his cronies can get a piece of the action when people are suffering.

BTW it isn't nice to call others a liar and it's kind of cowardly to do it from behind a keyboard.

    Semper Fi !
