Heat waves happen. But we broke a record for the highest June temperatures in the U.S. And it won't be the last record to fall this year. And wildfire season in CA started in May. And we just saw a Hurricane hit the New England Coast and cause miles of coastal flooding. Before that we saw an earthquake in PA, and a tornado in up-state New York, and a blizzard in October.
These things happen - one of these things, every fifty years or so. Forget the party lines; forget global warming; forget the economic arguments. Let's just take a baby step here and agree that the weather's getting weirder.
How long should we sit back and just say that "the weather is getting weird"? Thats what we've been doing for decades now.
Its not "weirdness" that is causing the problem. Its the heat trapping CO2 concentration in the atmosphere thats the problem....and its at the highest ppm level in millions of years.
The ppm level is at its highest level in millions of years.
We can deflect with this humor, but this is not just summer weather, or weird weather but it is far beyond that.
This scary weather should scare us. And we need to drop party lines, all our labels and get serious before the window closes to be able to do something about the causes of this "scary" weather.
What do you propose we do? I hear many saying we need to do something but no one ever says what that something should be. What REAL solutions do you propose we do?
There is really only so much we can do. We should be good caretakers of the earth simply because it's the moral thing to do. The US has something like 5 percent of the worlds population..yet generates just over 20 percent of the worlds trash. Surely..we can reduce the amount of trash we generate. Unfortunately..one of the biggest trash generators is convenience.
Expanding recycling..even if it included mandating it would go a long way. The reality is everyone can make a small difference..walk instead of drive when possible...drive an economical vehicle when possible. Recognize the difference between a need and a want.
It's something..but the reality is that there is little we can do to manipulate weather patterns and solar cycles.
