    In response to A_Concerned_Citizen's comment:

He couldnt slow walk it since the attack could have been hours away!

Did you already forget about the vote in Congress? The vote that the neo-cons insisted on having and which wasn't scheduled for at least a week. And you've been squawking about how they can delay the inspections... they could've done the same with the agreement offer.

The vote in congress was all before kerry's off the cuff analogy on assad getting rid of his chem weapons (which even he said was impossible) but, putin pounced on it and all the sudden he had an agreement with assad to do it? yea right

How long to assemble a team, plan areas where to look and how to avoid heavy fighting in a coutry ingulfed in civil war?

It doesn't matter, the inspectors are on their way and both Russia and Syria are on record as agreeing to it. "The die is cast." Backing out now only strengthens the US case for military strikes because neither Assad nor Putin can be trusted.

It does strengthen our case in about 6 months or a year maybe!

We are the only country besides Israel that is sold on assads use or at least the only country that wants to take seriious action! No other country supported military action! So, pretending to dismantle just improves his world image and if, he doesnt what will we do...attack him??

The majority of the G20 agreed it was Assad. Our closest allies, including Israel knew it was Assad. Disagreeing on a course of action is immaterial, we would've acted anyway.

NOT one other country agreed with military action; that doesnt matter? lol

The second part of that blurb is just you being ridiculous. The whole time you've been saying the US needs UN approval.

I never said we needed UN approval! There is no UN resolution authorizing the USA to use force against assad!

When because they certainly havent been receptive yet!

Assad controls the ports, air space and most major arteries. He is choking the supply chains and will win the war without intervention from outside forces aka (USA)!

That is just ignorant of history. History shows that if a major revolt is not put down quickly and decisively in the early stages the rebels get stronger and the gov't gets weaker. Now you seem to think that not only can Assad defy UN resolutions without repurcussions, he can defy history and be the first dictator to able to lose more than half his country to the opposition and still win. Time is not on the side of Assad, the longer this drags on the stronger the rebels get, not vice-versa.

If he cuts off supply lines what will the rebels fight with? rocks and stones??

The lefties are certainly bending over backwards to somehow recover Obama from the total embarassment he has made of himself.

Putin - former head of the KGB

    vs.

    Obama - former community activist

We have a President that is armed with a knife showing up at a gunfight, talking tough, then backing down. Try to put yourselves in the place of others around the world looking at this monumental clusterfork.

The tough community activist pronounces a "red line" in Syria if they use chemical weapons.  Was that before or after the disaster in Benghazi where he lied about the attack being incited by a video?  So the war in Syria at first looks bad for Assad, then the tide changes against the Syrian rebels. Of course the Syrian rebels, if they were in Iraq or Afghanistan would be our enemy, but for some stupid reason we are supporting them in Syria??

RIght there that should be enough to give a rational person some concern, bbut somehow the leftwingers see it as a plus, a victory for Obama??

Then Obama threatens Syria with an attack after a gas attack kills 1000 people. Somehow he wants to save the Syrian people - after standing by and watching 90,000 of them get slaughtered?

Then we get no support from anyone and Obama and Kerry go nuts trying to explain it as "unbelievably small" but more then a "pinprick"??

THen Kerry blunders into some "diplomatic solution" where the leftwing crazies somehow see this as Obama, the community activist, and Kerry, former Senator and traitor to his country, pulling a fast one on Putin and Assad.

    Really?

Syria, still has the chemical weapons. I would bet the rebels do too. Syria is still getting supplied through the air from Iran and Russia. The UN is not going to come up with anything because China will veto it if even Russia doesn't. Syria is still going after the rebels via the air and ground. The tough guy Obama has done nothing that he said he would. After he backs off, Syria will still have the chemical weapons and their ability to be supplied from the air all intact.

Yeah Obama and Kerry sure pulled a fast one.

This is so bad that we are going to face more confrontations to test Obama. Our adversaries know he is a weak sister. Now he has no credibility and no support from even the American people.

The danger now is that Obama will push the issue to prove he is really a tough guy. If you know how World War I started, you know how this type of confrontation can all of the sudden escalate to fullscale war.

You lefties must be into the medicinal marijuana.

It is a shame that we are not with Putin and Russia in combatting islamic extremists. Instead Obama's plan seems to be to create more of them by turning one country after another in the Middle East into a failed state for the extreme elements to control.

Who really cares if Putin gets the credit for helping to avert an American military strike?

World diplomacy is not some teenage popularity contest, even though the media and the right are doing their best to frame it that way.

Diplomacy is about solving problems peacefully.

The negative framing of Obama and the hero-framing of Putin on this very real humanitarian issue in Syria is the height of childishness.

If you're going to make fun of "lefties" for being stupid you might not want to trip out the gate.

The highest position Putin ever held was Lt. Colonel, which is roughly mid-level.

Putin was head of the FSS (Federal Security Service).

He was an outsider during Mikhail Gorbachev's reform process; Putin is quoted as saying

"Think how much better off this country would be if people like us were running it! Don't 'they' see how they're taking us to the brink of ruin and collapse?"

This definitely isn't how Kerry and Obama drew this up, but it is the result of having a commander in chief more mindful of protecting the Constitution than policing the world.  What would a Bush, McCain or even Romney have done?  Consulted Congress?  Postponed a strike so our elected representatives could weigh in?  We'd be hip-deep in war instead of potentially destroying all of Syria's chemical weapons without shedding a drop of blood.  I don't care how we got there - that's a win in any rational person's book.

Also, I think it's delusional to think that Putin is some political mastermind here.  This is 100% damage control - Russia provided these chemical weapons to Syria.  If this turns into WWIII, Russia needs to take a side.  How is Russia going to side with a Middle-Eastern regime gassing its own peole in this day and age?  How is it going to be Russia, Libya and Iran vs the world?  Assad's actions infuriated Russia, and this is Putin doing damage control - and look how quickly Assad snapped into line;  "Yes, please do destroy all my weapons, which up until now I never admitted I had, and I will sign any treaty you want".  Russia is not happy about all of this.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is no fan of the idea of American exceptionalism. He suggests that God isn’t either.

‘‘It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation,’’ Putin wrote in an opinion piece posted Wednesday on the website of The New York Times.

‘‘There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too,’’ he wrote. ‘‘We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.’’

Putin’s remarks concluded a plea to Americans for caution in dealing with Syria, a Russian ally. He cited President Barack Obama’s speech Tuesday night in which he asserted that American ideals and principles ‘‘are at stake in Syria’’ as he made his case for holding the Assad government accountable for a deadly chemical weapons attack near Damascus.

‘‘That’s what makes America different,’’ Obama said. ‘‘That’s what makes us exceptional. With humility, but with resolve, let us never lose sight of that essential truth.’’

The sheer looniness on the right only succeeds in making POTUS look better to the majority of rational-thinking people.  They've been wrong so often and so spectacularly as to personify negative reinforcement.

I won't award undue (or premature) praise to Obama, much less over some idiot columnist's idea of 'gamesmanship'.  A diplomatic solution was always the desired result, no matter how distant.

Wiser heads would do just as well not to bury the bodies before they're dead, in a manner of speaking....

Right. The press and the right wingers are all in a conspiracy to make sure Putin gets the credit here And Obama doesn't.

No, it means the false narrative about "credit" is a canard in the lamest sense.

Same goes for goper bloviations about 'credibility' when they are the ones partly responsible for several of the hits to the global perception of same.

The goal always was and still is cessation of hostilities and disarmament.  Not regime change for its own sake or some obscure moral calculus.

Putin isn't saying anything that I haven't already heard concerning American exceptionalism from a number of the left leaning posters on BDC already.  I guess it still hurts that Reagan outspent him and caused the fall of the USSR.

    I just disagree with him.

BTW did he actually say; ‘‘We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.’’

Sounds like he's onboard with marriage equality and repealing his anti-gay propaganda laws, just in time for Russia on the Olympic world stage.

ANTAKYA, Turkey — Syrian opposition activists tell NBC News that Bashar Assad is getting away with having used chemical weapons to massacre hundreds of civilians, and that giving the regime a pass will only benefit al-Qaeda extremists.

“If there is no action, everyone will be desperate. We are already desperate. We are dying. Many will join al-Qaeda. Even the educated will join them, because no one else is helping,” a Syrian rebel said.

There is a battle underway within the Syrian revolt -- a war within the war -- between the generally moderate, US-backed Free Syrian Army and Islamic extremist groups.

The Free Syrian Army put its faith in Washington, which promised action, but so far hasn’t delivered. The moderates say they have lost hope and face. Islamists, on the other hand, always doubted Washington would act, and instead of attending meetings, they are putting bullets in their guns; and they are sending men.

Both want to topple Assad, but the end goals are very different: democracy on one side, and an Islamic state on the other.

So, dictatorship or the good chance it will evolve into another islamic state!

The USA is exceptional not because of our race, geography or any one brilliance. We are exceptional because we have a constitution that protects us as a people from foreign and domestic threats, a bill of rights that protects us as individuals and we are fortunate enough to live in a free market capitalist economic society that allows us to have the opportunity to reach for our individual goals!

Our biggest risk is becoming dependent on things other than ourselves!
