Steve King, at hearing on possible GOP version of DREAM Act: "for everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."
"King's statistic is offensive and baseless. According to actual data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 55% of alien immigrants removed from the United States were convicted criminals. The American Immigration Council shows that, of the illegal immigrants who would potentially benefit from the DREAM initiative, 71% hail from Mexico, 14% from other North and Central America, 6% from Asia, 6% from South America, 2% from Europe, and 1% from other regions. That's a far cry from the numbers King spouted off."
Asked about King's comments at Heritage Foundation meeting on immigration, R. Labrador says:
"Shame on you," Labrador told the reporter. "Shame on the media for only concentrating on that aspect of that. Now, if you were saying that as part of a story, then you would be actually showing the truth of what's happening in Congress." But the media, for some reason, kept focusing on "reprehensible" comments like King's. "He represents a very small minority. If you're going to talk about a hearing ilke yesterday's, make sure what you talk about everyone said in that hearing, not what one outlier said."
Well maybe you guys better get your image together, because what the public sees right now is loud-mouth politicians with questionable racial motives like King making a lot of loud and stupid noise.
