Libya bans political parties that have a religious influence.

How come a country that is just reforming a government understands this but half of this country doesn't?

No but we should be embarrassed.

Also it shows up those that were saying Libya was going to turn into another Jihadist state, as Sk8terboy did throughout their revolution.

Maybe you're embarrassed, although I'm not sure why? I'm proud of our system, travel around the world, other countries are envious of what we have here. And I'm not talking about monetary stuff, but the way our system of government works.

I do believe it, Libya was controlled by a religious despot, i do not find it hard to believe that they would not like to return to his policies. I know its hard to believe (because its never reported on) but there are states in the Middle East that are ruled without a large religious influence, just take a look at Qatar. Al Jazeera would have never been allowed to exist in theocracy. I'm pretty sure that, that is an oversimplification of Obamas economic policy.

That's funny unfortunately my girlfriend was born into a family of Yankee fans but that doesn't mean im not going to try to convert her.

Id say that's a very large over generalization I've lived in other countries and am a duel citizen with Britain, i haven't met anyone in the UK that was envious of the United States. I'm not attempting to generally bash our form of government its just becoming apparent that religion is meshing a little to much with the government (or attempting to) for my comfort. Maybe its more apparent to me because i'm not of the dominant religion.

With a separation of church and state written into our constitution.

    Color me dubious.

Libya has a way to go yet.  Concepts, no matter how laudable, often don't translate into practice.

Let's start with full voting rights for women and minorities and go from there....

I felt to share it as i said earlier because people on this board where claiming that Libya was going to become another state ruled by sharia law, this is a step that would point in the opposite direction.

In Response to Re: Libya bans political parties that have a religious influence. : He told you. It was in response to the posters who predicted that Libya was/would reform into a Muslim Brotherhood/Al Queda/Insert-religious-bogeyman-here safe haven. The fact that Libya trying to eliminate religious influence at it's core proves that to be an unfounded and hyperbolic line of reasoning, and I use that term ever so loosely.

The problem is as much with your "they" as the right!
It has as much validity as those that say the left has a socialist agenda!

Do you think this means there will be no religion in their govt? Are they going to kick out the current parties influenced by religion?
