[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Libya bans political parties that have a religious influence. : Not that! I'm not attempting to generally bash our form of government its just becoming apparent that religion is meshing a little to much with the government (or attempting to) for my comfort. Maybe its more apparent to me because i'm not of the dominant religion. That, from him.

We just had a series of candidates bring back issues from the 1950s such as birth control and teaching of evolution in schools. Attacks on planned parenthood without an understanding of what they actually do. A so called war on religion has been openly debated, a former front running candidate said that he was wanted to "throw up" when listening to a speech from JFK about separation of church and state. There is a political movement in this country that supports this ideology. And the presumptive nominee has done nothing to distance himself from these comments. (I do not believe romney agrees with these comments)

As to the poster who just referenced socialism, there is no purpose in debating someone like him because he clearly doesn't understand what socialism is. I am not a democrat or a republican but an independent because i don't believe in party lines. But people who call Obama a socialist do not understand how his presidency has been run in the context of the history of this nation.

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...." and Article VI specifies that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

So, you can't find separation of church and state.

    Thanks for confirming this.

All of what you're talking about is from one candidate that is no longer in the race, and never had a real shot a the general election. This is not a reflection of the Republican party, unless you ask a dem.

No, at least I don't.  If anything it is the opposite, meaning the professionally offended class getting their knickers in a twist every time someone say "god bless you" outside of their home or church.

The fight in this country is between atheist, who are offended that people have different opinions than them, and are on an all out war to force religion out of the public square.

Or as 'socialist' as the last wingnut admin socializing Wall St losses while privatizing Wall St profits. Or as 'socialist' as the last wingnut admin starting the auto-bailout ball rolling. Ya, I can see why projecting such a label onto Dems is so much easier than reality. Reality is harsh on the wingnut rhetoric.
