Manning: Out of the closet, or did they drive him nuts?

Nope...These are all his choices, I give the trader no slack to use the victim card.

Well, based on the note he wrote he seems to be saying he's felt this way since childhood and isn't in the least bit saying they did it to him or that it's what he did what he did.

    Timing is sure odd, though

Then I guess I'm not understanding your headline, "or did they drive him nuts".

RE: conditions of confinement post-leak and leading up to trial.

Not saying I believe that, just "throwing it out there".

Oh, the confinement thing, I could care less. It was good practice for the coming years. And if he wants to convert to a woman go right ahead, he'll be up for parole in about eight years he can do it when he gets out on his dime . I just don't feel like paying for this traders inedentity crisis fix while in prison.

Not sure how being transgender makes Manning "nuts", exactly.

Although it might help explain some of the alienation he felt in the military given its entrenched cultures.

(And no, I'm not calling him/her a "victim".  He knew he was breaking the rules and deserves to be punished...regardless of his gender identity.)

I recall reading that he was gay back when all of this first broke, but according to some accounts he had reached out to a gender counselor back in 2009.

His gender identity is old news.

If you can find it, check out "We Steal Secrets, the Story of Julian Assange and Wikileaks".

They get into all sorts of stuff Manning was into before he stole anything.

I'm not saying transgender people are "nuts" in general, but I do note that prolonged solitary confinement, etc., does tend to make people crazy and it could be - but is not necessarily - a symptom.
