March on Washington 50 years later: Government worship, hero worship

50 years ago, a March on Washington, brave self reliant citizens standing against Government oppression and state power.

Today, a subservient dependent pro-Government hero-worshipping march. They want more Government, and more power to their Dear Leader.

You think Dr King would march with an American flag with his image on it?

A marcher carries US flag with image of Obama on it. State worship, meet hero worship. Hero worship, state worship. http://tinyurl.com/lp69cq5

    No no, really.

    Shut up.

    Ok report the post again...

Best part is the flag waver is wearing a teachers union shirt.

The problem with the flag including Obama is that it is not about Obama.  No person should ever appear as part of an american flag, no one.  America is bigger than it's leader.

So you would agree that CLC was wrong in the extreme to extrapolate from the one person you and he have a problem with to the entire march?

I would agree that there is a wide ranging set of opinions during the march, of which this is one.  I would think that the opinions are all progressive, however.

Like the critiques of the TEA party protesters, broad brushes are not necessarily accurate.

And yet the battle for an inclusive truly democratic society also marches on.

The 1963 March was just as much about economic equality as it was about racial and/or class equality.

In many ways, the Dream has been forgotten.

I think the dream has been usurped.  Do you really think MLK woudl be down with the speeches given at the march?  I think he would have been horrified.

To a large extent we have economic equality today, or at least better than anywhere else on the planet, excluding the old Hong Kong, pre commie takeover.  I think we have actually gone backwards in this regard during the Obama administration, and at least half of the Bush administration.

Government and government regulation is crushing economic freedom and equality, unless you call us all being poor and completely under the thumb of government equality.

Re: March on Washington 50 years later: Government worship, hero worship

50 years ago they marched on Washington to petition their national government for help, not to stand against it. They wanted their government to fulfill its duty and to ensure true freedom and liberty for all its citizens. They were fighting their oppressors in their states, their fellow citizens who used the power of government to oppress others. The national government needs to exercise its power over the states in matters of liberty. This is why they came to Washington.

"Hold it fellows, that don't move me. Let's get real, real gone for a change."

    -Elvis Presley
