As a father I know that my hands could stop that romance .

With an easily obtained judicial bypass, The State of Massachusetts ensures a 16 year old can make  the choice to have an abortion without the parents being notified....so why cant she do what she wishes?

The State is paramount in today's society; parents, especially fathers, are an afterthought, a barrier to freedom.

As a tolerant liberal, how dare you imply threats and violence against individuals making their own 'choices'...

The legislature set the age of consent at 16. That's really all there is to it.

If the parents want to withhold presents or something else if she has a relationship with the guy, that's certainly within their power. When did the SJC say they couldn't do any parenting?

With Obama's plans for mandatory pre-school commencing at age 5, with mandatory sex ed included no doubt, parents will be outgunned by the State.

But why do helicopters eat their young?

Because they're too hard to catch when they get older?

The father shouldn't have used the courts for this situation in the first place.  It isn't the courts job to do what he is apprently unable to do via parenting.  I understand his frustration, but if he can't compel his child to abide by his wishes then I am guessing he hasn't really tried.

A parent wants the government to keep his daughter chaste, and he gets stopped by "liberal" courts????  so much for the righties wanting small government.

what ever hapened to the righties crying about the lack of parental reponsibility?

and while a 24 year old guy and 16 year old girl is just wrong, would dear old dad be ok with a 17 year old trying to get in his daughters pants?  Dad, get your daughter on the pill and explain the dangers of having unprotected sex to her.  And stop wasting tax payer money by trying to get the government to parent your kids.

Completely agree. This father was misusing the court system because he is not capable of parenting his own daughter. Talk about a waste of the court's time. You don't want your daughter to meet this guy..? Keep her home! Take away her toys..her internet..cell phone..etc. Don't misuse a domestic violence law because you are an incompetent parent.

You wingnuts are just too funny. So..in your world view..it's okay that this parent misused the government and the legal system because he was not capable of parenting his own 16 year old daughter? He was going to be out of town..so now it's the government and the police department's job to babysit his daughter? Meanwhile..there are actual domestic violence cases that took a back seat while this father wasted the court's time.

Geesh.. I thought you were opposed to a nanny state.

By the way..the concept of mandatory public preschool well preceded Obama. In fact any educator you can ask will be in favor of it..as well as most parents. Also..at age 5 children are in Kindergarten...not preschool.
