Now Obama's shut down the Vietnam Memorial

Why does Obama hate the military so much?

Finally, after all these years, these Vietnam vets are learning how to answer the question posed by Country Joe and the Fish.

    Which was?

Sorry, I remember the song, but, like Country Joe, I was at Woodstock, or so people tell me.  I don't remember a thing.

For those of you who left your dead and dying brain cells on the battlefields of the 60s here you go:

    And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
    Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
    Next stop is Vietnam.
    And it's five, six, seven,
    Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
    Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Obama did not single out the Vietnam Memorial to be closed. Point in fact, tourism and homebuyers are the two hardest hit areas of our economy to be hit by the government shutdown according to an article on Sunday's boston.com. The Memorial comes under the hit tourism is taking during the shutdown.

Under recreation, that article said the following:

    RECREATION

All national parks are closed. Grand National Canyon National Park was shut down for only the second time since it was created in 1919. The Grand Canyon averages 18,000 tourists per day in October, which has left hotels, concessionaires and tour operators losing money by the hour.

In Washington, monuments along the National Mall have been closed, as have the Smithsonian museums, including the National Zoo. Among the visitor centers that have closed: the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island in New York, Independence Hall in Philadelphia and Alcatraz Island near San Francisco.

And, of course, Obama himself does not decide what part of the economy is open and what part is closed for business so Obama did NOT shut down the Vietnam Memorial.

But then you knew that, did you not skeeter.

Weak.  He is responsible. It is his administration, or is he running from the position of responsibility for which he ran?  Of course he is.  He never stands to be counted.  He votes "present", he blames Bush.  His syncophants, like you, and Obama himself, continue to refuse to accept the responsibility for their actions, and the downstream impacts.  With Obama, it is ALWAYS someone else's fault.

And now, it is not "Obama", but it is someone else, maybe that lone republican staffer buried deep within the park service,  who is determining what gets shut down.

Heck, the park service is even trying to close down things like Mt. Vernon and some hotels on leased property, none of which is under the perview of the national parks.
Closing down the Vietnam Memorial, tactically speaking, is like closing down a section of sidewalk.

It was done on purpose for maximum effect, i.e. harm to the average working man.

This is a game of making points and highlighting the pain which is why the country becomes more disenfrnchised from government.

There is no logical postion to close the National Mall or other open air parks or war memorials in DC.  Now closing the restrooms, no guides and closing all buildings and building like monumnents such as the Bunker Hill makes perfect sense.

Our goverment is so dysfunctional that all the partisan operatives on both sides of the aisle should be voted out.  The present POTUS is among the worst in this case as he is supposed to be the leader of the American people and not just the Dem party.

Brinksmanship over the debt ceiling should be off the table, to this end the votes to create the current deficit which requires a raising of the debt ceiling needs to be done.

But the budget discussions are where funding and revenue decisions are made and bottom line the deficit needs to be addressed.  In budget debate/decisons/discussions everything is on table, the Dems can't just say no when they don't have total control like in 2008.  There is a reason Americans voted in a divided government and its because they don't trust either party and they expect compromise; ...from both sides.

I'd take a whole congress filled with Scott Browns, Olympia Snows and a bunch of Blue Dogs any day over the current batch of party extremist moonbats and wingnuts.

Dems are so very evil that no matter what the GOP does to fight the Dems, it's still the Dems fault, because the Dems made the GOP fight them. It doesn't matter what the GOP does to fight Dems, as long as they're fighting them. And when the Dems fail to make the pain the GOP is deliberately causing less painful, that's their fault, too.

You're right. Obama shut down the government to force himself to defund his own law. The GOP wants to fund it and keep government open, but no, Mean Obama used his stranglehold on the HOR to force a shutdown. Makes perfect sense.

Once again:  this country is AWASH with food.  Nearly 25% of our entire edible food supply ends up in the trash.  Meals are offered somewhere in just about every community nearly everyday.

There is no need for government to provide food to anybody not critically disabled in the form of an EBT card or food stamps.

Hey dipstick, the wingnut shutdown is affect the disabled and homebound.

One organization that’s taking a particularly rough punch is Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), which represents 5,000 local programs throughout the country that deliver more than 1 million meals a day to homebound seniors.

But I'm sure you'll just conjure up another dystopian fantasy in that empty head of yours to make excuses for those facts.

    Idiot.

Skeeter lacks human decency.  You think he cares about hungry people?  To him, every unfortunate soul who doesn't have food on their plate, or can't afford health insurance is an irresponsible freeloader who is trying to game the system and deserves whatever fate befalls them.

Which part of "shutdown" is so hard to understand...?

And since when did gopers and tee partee frootcakes start liking anything the fed did...??  They and their cronies have been trying to drill for oil and gas on federal lands for decades, so they should stop pretending they give a damm.

Only these people would deny real medical and other benefits for veterans while fighting to keep the memorial open. That's some chutzpah right there....

    Lacks decency?

Who mentioned Meals on wheels?  You do know only @30% of the funding for Meals on Whelles comes from a combination of STATE and federal funding?  You kdo know that Meals on wheels collects for each meal delivered?  What a tool, claiming this is shutdown due to federal funding when it is likely not even in play.

I am merely pointing out that the free market provides more than enough food for every man, woman, and child in this country to eat.

You, on the other hand, insist that the market distorting food stamps program is a) cancelled do to the shut down, it is not, and b) that it is somehow more humane than going to a food pantry, soup kitchen, or, god forbid, you loadinng up a bag of groceries and dropping it off with someone YOU know is in need.

Yep, SOMEHOW, to Username, a faceless government worker doing something is so much more decent than Username steppingaway from the keyboard and showing some personal initiative and responsibility for those in need around him.

Sick pups, you progressives.  Always hiding behind the skirts of the needy.

Dumpsters is one source.  Then again, you could push away from the keyboard and help those in need around you.  You will gain some new perspective and a sense of well being from doing so.

But, then again, the left is wrong on the facts.  Food stamps is not shut off.

    38. Will I be able to get food stamps? Yes. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is funded through the Recovery Act and from funds that don't expire for another year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says.
