Obama, in one 5 minute speech shuts down the whole birther movement - no shots fired.

Now that the birthers have been discredited and exposed as the morons we always knew they were, I await the next generation of wild conspiracy theories no doubt being cooked up and assembled by the wingnut media outlets now.

Will the wingnuts ever let us get to the business of America and finally ShutTFU?

Or will they eventually turn on their mouthpiece and ask Trump for the birth certificate of that thing living on his head?

now we can talk to the issues; never ending main street recession, continued housing value drop, rising energy prices threatening a double dip, HCR, the never ending wars (now up to 3) and Gitmo is still open.

The answer is probably that all along the Obama administration couldn't believe even in their wildest dreams (especially with all the cr@p going on in the world) that something like this would even become an issue that had to be dealt with.

If it was this simple to release his long form why did the president let it fester and create such a distraction; ...oh that's right it created a distraction and fostered the derisive and divisive meme that it was driving by racism becuase we know that no one could honestly just disagree with President Obama's agenda and policies.

The document copy was dated April 25, 2011 did it take 3 years to get it or was it just advantageous to the campaign to play this short form - long form game.

I've already tried to explain the first part of your post, not sure if that got through or not. Concerning the long form/short form game, as you put it, that was created by the birthers. As Obama said himself, his cert had been viewed, documented, posted on the internet and analyzed since the begining. The birther morons just refused to believe it. They got caught up in their own lunacy and started believing their own rhetoric.

Massmoderatejoe - anytime someone disagrees with a minority it's racism silly. When will you get this through your head. Allow me to give you a little cheat sheet as to how it all works...
Disagree with a black person = racist
Disagree with a woman = sexist
Disagree with a homosexual = homophobe

That being said I hope this ridiculous birther issue will finally go away. Although judging by the amount of threads started today I'm not sure it's going away anytime soon....

Well it was the Clinton campaign that first alluded to citizenship issues with candidate Obama; was the Clinton campaign racist?  I guess anyone not supporting Obama and his policies is considered racist and that is a sad commentary on race in the US, ...and yes some of the more strident birthers were racist, but most just liked a good conspiracy theorey.

Everyone dose something for a reason.........Obama let it fester when he could have killed it three years ago, because his team saw a benefit which evaporated.  Why did the festering issue evaporate, well maybe the good thing for the GOP was that Trump looked so foolish that everyone of consequence was distancing themselves from the birth certificate issue.

All true, but why didn't the president just provide the long form to end the issue 3 years ago, the answer was that there was a benefit to fostering the rediculous birther movement and some of the more ardent birthers were most likely racist, but most just like a good conspiracy theorey.  I still don't believe the JFK magic bullet theory.

Re: Obama, in one 5 minute speech shuts down the whole birther movement - no shots fired.

It is not necessary to have an opinion about where www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/obama-administration/barack-obama.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">President Obama was born to know that his lack of candor has cost him public trust. Obama’s approval ratings are in the mid-40s, while his disapproval ratings hover at the 50 percent mark. The president's release of his birth certificate feels forced. Obama should have released his birth certificate as a candidate.

In this hyper-media driven world, the public expects to know everything about their elected officials, and they often do. And when they do not, they become curious and then they become suspicious. And once those suspicions set-in, critics and others feel free to fill-in the gaps. This is what happened to Obama.

After Watergate, the lesson that America learned was that it is the cover-up that gets you.

In this www.foxnews.com/topics/facebook.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Facebook/www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/iraq/wikileaks.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">WikiLeaks world nothing stays secret for very long world. The GOP may not be able to force Obama to disclose www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/white-house.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">White House logs, or college transcripts. But the 2012 candidates can lead by example, and let the public know who is being straight with them.

Memo to prospective Republican 2012 presidential candidates: make a complete disclosure now. Release your complete birth records, all your transcripts, 10 years’ worth of tax returns, and any and all arrest records. Do it now, not later. Let the American voter know who you really are.

Tell America where you were born, whether you have an arrest record, how much money you make, how much taxes you pay, how much and to whom do you donate to charity, what is your financial worth, what do you in in property and investments, how financially indebted are you and who are your clients, where did you go to school, what courses did you take and what were your grades. The public has a right to know. During the campaign release the names and amounts of campaign contributions in real time.

Can disclosure be embarrassing? We know the answer to that question. But we also know that refusal to come clean is worse.

During the 2000 campaign, www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/george-bush.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">George W. Bush failed to disclose his 1976 arrest for driving under the influence, until Fox New’s Carl Cameron broke the story. Bush’s inability to admit the truth until he was caught likely cost him the popular vote and nearly cost him the November election.

These days, President Obama continues to stonewall about releasing his college and law school transcripts, despite continued public demand. A look at Obama’s poll number tells the story of how not coming clean can damage the man, the office and the public trust.

In the case of Obama, his claims of privacy sounds hollow given the fact that wrote an autobiography called "Dreams of My Father."

The Gospel says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” If Obama could sit through www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/reverend-wright.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Reverend Wright’s sermons all those years, the least he can now do is take a hint from John 8:32 and come clean with a release of his personal records and transcripts. If you are going to “share” in a book, be prepared to tell all when you run for president.

As for financial records, a ten-year release of tax returns lets the public know whether the candidate obeys the tax laws, whether he or she has problems making ends meet, whether the candidate is personally generous and what the candidate’s priorities are.

A rabbi once observed that a person’s spirituality can be measured by how he or she tends to the material needs of others. Does America want another president whose favorite charity was Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ?

Also, does America want a president who does not obey or know the tax laws? www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/obama-administration/timothy-geithner.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Timothy Geithner, Obama’s Treasury Secretary, failed to pay $34,000 in taxes.

www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/tom-daschle.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Tom Daschle, Obama’s first HHS Secretary Designee and former Democratic Senate Majority Leader, had his nomination pulled because he failed to pay over $83,000 in taxes and improperly took nearly $15,000 in tax deductions.

The Senate gets to review presidential nominations. But, it is the American people who are asked to pass judgment upon a presidential wannabe, and the public can only do its job properly if the candidate makes an early and complete disclosure.

Financial disclosure will also enable the public to know whether a candidate made his or her money by investing his or her money overseas, as opposed to helping create jobs at home, or whether a prospective president was on a foreign payroll shilling for a company controlled by www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/president-hugo-chavez.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Hugo Chavez

In 1988 Democratic vice presidential candidate Lloyd Bentsen had a weak spot for investing in the Fidelity Overseas fund.

In 2004 Democratic vice presidential candidate www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/john-edwards.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">John Edwards had a similar weakness for foreign investment while hypocritically complaining about a lack of jobs in the www.foxnews.com/topics/u.s.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">United States

During his 2008 presidential run former New York Mayor www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/rudy-giuliani.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Rudy Giuliani’s client list emerged as a campaign issue.

Former House Ways and Means Committee Chair www.foxnews.com/topics/politics/rep.-chuck-rangel.htm#r_src=ramp" class="r_lapi">Charlie Rangel’s “omissions” on his disclosure forms are the stuff of legend, laughs and lore. Oh, and they cost Rangel his committee chairmanship.

www.usoge.gov/forms/oge278/oge278_automated.pdf." target="_blank">Presidents, senators, congressmen and high level federal appointees and employees are required to disclose their assets annually. The same kind of disclosure should be made by prospective nominees. Neither the public nor the press should be made to grovel for this vital information.

If a candidate is unwilling to make comprehensive disclosure about personal history, finances and education, that candidate should not be running for president. But, if they can stand the heat and make complete disclosure, the candidate and the country will be the better for it. These days the truth comes out, and how it comes out can either make you or break you.

Good!! Glad it's over. Let's face it someone in his circle and/or re-election committee saw this might be and could cost him if he does not squash this ASAP. If there was no re-election coming for him 2012 for him, I feel it would have remained in the dark. Purely a strategic move, and smart on his end, he's going to need every vote he can get.
