Oh no not Elmo..............

What is it with guys around kids.  We had the Catholic Church scandal then Boy Scouts, then BBC with Jimmy Saville and now Elmo which brings me back to Pee Wee Herman.

Elmo puppeteer accused of underage relationship

Kevin Clash, who performs as Elmo on ‘‘Sesame Street’’ is taking a leave of absence from the show in the wake of allegations that he had a relationship with a 16-year-old boy. Clash denies the accusations.

I hope this is not true.  My young one watches this show daily, and the last thing I want in the back of my mind is the image of a masked molester who asks kids to "tickle me"

I think this might be a reaction to what happened with the BBC.

I don't know what he did or didn't do, but the alledged victim was 16 years old.  Not that I think it's OK - far from it - but it certainly isn't the same thing as raping helpless children.

I believe Pee Wee Herman got in trouble for enjoying himself a little too much at a movie house showing porn.  Not even close to child abuse.  Again, not something I think is OK, but hardly on the same level as abusing children.

No worries...the accuser has now recanted his story. Sometimes people lie...like rugs in fact.

Recanted his story with a payoff, Elmo may still have something hidden in Ernie's closet.
Where has it been reported that there was a payoff..? Or are you just making things up again? Sounds to me like he was probably looking for a little payola and instead got the threat of a lawsuit.

This reply can also go to WDYWN since she felt the need to jump in with a false accusation that I make stuff up.

It's unclear why the accuser suddenly changed his story ... but sources close to the situation tell TMZ ... the accuser's attorney had been meeting with Clash's attorney as recent as an hour ago, discussing a financial settlement and 6-figures were on the table.

That's pretty much what I was thinking....tabloid TV does not equal news...Perhaps thats part of the problem these days..more and more people simply cannot tell the difference. Scary.

As much as I loathe TMZ, they get the stories and inside scoops. Not to mention, how many "legitimate" news organizations ran with the Elmo story that TMZ was the first to break the story.
Too many of these accusations aren't true, which damages the accused forever.  In today's environment accusations are front page, recants/corrections are back page or ignored.

Unfortunately for Elmo's Kevin Clash there will always be those who are suspicious forever more.

Agreed but the damage was already done with the accusation which may have served the person who made it in the first place - Mr Clash had no hope to remain - It's a shame

You would think Cardinal Law and other "movers and shufflers" would have to do some JAIL time but nope Law is enjoying the Vatican and the new Pope well, is the pope

Justice can be a fickle thing....
