As a tax paying, hard working, law abiding patriotic citizen of this country, how will this plan negatively impact me???
I already pay a huge premium to have a great plan for my family, and I pay extra because hospitals have to treat illegals and people who can't pay, and they have to make up for the money that Medicare won't reimburse them.
How much more do I get to pay under the Baucus plan and what care will my family now be deprived of as a result??? -

You're going to pay a lot more if the plan doesn't require EVERYONE to get coverage and if pre-existing conditions are done away with. I read an article about how premiums will increase sharply when you have people who don't bother picking up coverage until they absolutely need it, which they could do if pre-x goes away.
So basically you'll have people who don't pay into the premium pool due to not having health insurance, but then will drain from that pool when they get coverage due to falling ill. Due to that lack of premiums the insurance will have to be increased upon renewal to account for the influx of sick people.
At least if everyone was required to get coverage then there wouldn't be an issue. Let's hope the plan requires all to get coverage otherwise people like you and I will be paying and paying and paying.
And before people start in....no, I'm not against pre-x being dropped. -

Olympia 'Snowed' = David Souter
What it is about northern New England Republicans that make them so quick to sell out principles , in exchange for puff pieces in the NY Times and Washington Post?
The state-controlled media will soon award her the equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Her new first names: "moderate", "thoughtful", "bipartisan".
The compromise this "moderate" holds out for confiscates 1/6 of the free private economy to soulless bureaucrats.
What will Olympia Snowed get in return?
A future talk show on MSNBC ! -

It will be the single largest tax bill in US history. Longer waits in the emergency rooms, rationed health care (especially for the elderly), longer waits to get specialist appontments. Government control of who goes to med school and where medical pros will be assigned.
To make us all warm in the heart, we get to pick up the tab for 20 MILLION illegals.
Concerned about the availability of pharmceuticals? I would be. -

Well, here is section that describes how the self employed and family business will be helped.
From the National Assoc of the Self Employed---
"The self-employed will be specifically excluded from accessing the small employer tax credit in the Baucus plan:
"Self employed individuals, including partners and sole proprietors, two percent share-holders of an S Corporation, and five percent owners of a C Corporation would not be treated as employees for purposes of this credit. There will also be a special rule for sole proprietorships to prevent them from receiving the credit for the owner and their family members. Thus, no credit would be available for contribution to the purchase of health insurance for these individuals and the individual would not be taken into account in determining the number of employees or the average full time equivalent wages."
So for all you sole-proprietors out there with employees, you may be able to get assistance in paying for your workers' health insurance, but for your own health care you're out in the cold. Additionally, you won't even be able to qualify for the individual/family tax credit if your income is more than $32,490 for an individual or $66,150 for a family of four.
If you are self-employed or a micro-business that employs family members, then you are even worse off because you will receive absolutely no financial assistance to afford group health coverage. Considering that family businesses account for 50% of U.S. gross domestic product, generate 60% of the country's employment and provide 78% of all new job creation, Senator Baucus might want to reconsider his choice to exclude them from receiving assistance to afford group health coverage. (Statistics courtesy of University of Southern Maine's Institute for Family-Owned Business.)
Again absent from the Baucus legislation, as with all of the other reform proposals, is the ability for the self-employed to receive a business tax deduction for health insurance like all other businesses and the expansion of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) to allow the sole-proprietor owner to participate. well done Mike. They will also get a double whammy (as they do with social security already). I'll bet anything they force small business owners to cover employees, yet are F'd in covering themselves and their families. -

Like most Dem created plans, anti-business small and large, but at least big business gets a place at the table (or golf course or informational retreat with legislators) leaving small business to fend for themselves. When will the libs understand that the money always comes come someone. That someone is always the middle class, through the higher premiums or higher taxes, and the rich tax is just another class war.
The biggest change is the removal of pre-existing conditions restriction, which will help a lot of people. Insurance works best when the burden is ditributed fairly which is why the healthy young that opt out should be taxed. The opt out crowd benefits the most from this plan because when they need insurance they wont be excluded due to pre-existing conditions. So mandatory coverage or a high opt out penalty is the fair way to go. The public option which unfairly competes with the marketplace is not a fair way to go.
Time for the American Moderate Party. -

In terms of real change, this bill is likely the weakest effort to "overhaul health care" that the GOP will see. The overwhelming majority of the health care industry will still be left in the hands of private enterprise/insurers. It comes nowhere near the "socialism" of successful government-run HC systems in, say, Scandinavia.
Further, it fully retains the peculiar American principle: that the quality of health care you get depends upon your ability to pay for it. If this is indeed "socialism" (it isn't), then it's "socialism" that even conservatives should be able to believe in. It's by-and-large the bare minimum amount of "change" conceivable in this debate. -

The good news is that as more gets attached or taken away, there will be more for the dems to fight about.
My message to the lefties that insist on a public option with a path to single payer: Don't give in, stand up for what you believe in and fight your opposition to the death.
To the moderat Democrats who oppose a public option: Stay strong, don't back down, don't compromise your principles under any circumstances. If necessary fight this issue until you are the last man alive. -

Its not the republicans.By ERICA WERNER

Sunday, October 18, 2009 1:55 AMWASHINGTON -- You may think Democrats and Republicans are at odds over health care. Well, they've got nothing on House and Senate Democrats going after each other.
The intraparty disputes may prove the most grueling test of all as Congress tries to write a bill that fulfills President Barack Obama's goal of extending coverage to millions of Americans and reining in rising medical costs.
