Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor by seeking to get a state trooper fired, an investigative report released tonight says.

What do you think of this finding? Do you agree or disagree? Does this affect how you view the McCain-Palin ticket?

No surprise, because she's quite a Maverick ya'no. And in the VP debate she said that she wanted to expand the authority of the office. Sure thing.

Palin is an embarrassment to the GOP, and that my friends, after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, is pretty hard to do.

Gov. Sara Palin broke the law, specifically, the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act, Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a). This law provides:

"The legislature reaffirms that each officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."

She specifically used her public office to benefit and further a personal or financial interest through official action. She broke the law.

Personally, I love the McCain campaign's statement calling this a "partisan attack" fueled by "Obama supporters". 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats who started this investigation well before Palin was nominated. Guilty of abuse of power? Darn right she is!

Alaska must have tougher state employee unions than other states. This may indeed help Palin become the next vice president.
Those who know their history know Coolidge got elected by halting a police strike, and Ronald Reagan gained a great deal of power by putting down the employee unions at the UC and UC State campuses and then following this up with a defeat of the air traffic controller unions.
Others should note the lack of success of Gray Davis who was removed from office for taking bribes from the larger California Prison Guard unions.
In a down economy, taxpayers are not given to largesse for the state or local workers.

Well, this just shows that Massachusetts isn't the only state that has uneducated criminal thugs working as police officers. They shouldn't of fired the trooper--they should of beat the living crap out of him for what he did. Actually, he should move here for a new job--he would fit right in with the scum bag cops we have in this state.
Nazi Germany got its start this way
Actually Nazi Germany got its start this way, like you, spewing venom and demonizing those of us with a modicum of intellect who can see through the obvious fear mongering that so appeals to "the base"

"There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted and would anyway always yield to the stronger, 'and this will always be the man in the street.' Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology. Hatred and contempt must be directed at particular individuals"

"“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it (Obama is Muslim, Obama supports terrorists, etc. etc.), people will eventually come to believe it. The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over”

You accuse your opponents and their supporters of racism for questioning policy differences. You blindly follow a complicit, in the tank media covering up for their chosen one.
I, for one, will watch with a peculiar mixture of horror, disgust and fascination as this country is transformed from the last best hope on Earth into a quasi-European fiefdom that abuses the rights of Christians, gun owners and all forms of dissenters. Nazi Germany got its start this way, but since this false messiah of yours isn't white or conservative he's not only above criticism, but also honest questions about policy.

Buccaneer81, I agree with you all the way. I knew this story was going to get these liberal idiots all worked up into a frothing, fevered, frenzy. Anything that can take the spotlight off of ACORN, Rev. Wright, Ayers, and the countless other "bad" judments Obama has made, is sure to get these idiots all wound up. Palin tossed out a bad supervisor who refused to toss out a bad trooper. Shame on all of you who're using THIS as your pivotal point! They will play this story right up until the hours before election day...then they'll play it ALL day on election day. Liberal media is pathetic....let me make my own decisions you nitwits.

We are (or maybe were) a nation of laws. If a trooper broke the law then there is a process by which he can get fired and that process is not a phone call by the Governor, her husband or others acting on her behalf.

One purpose of the Nuremberg trials was to show that we are not fascists and believe in due process.

Palin's behavior underwent the proper process despite her lack of cooperation and the finding was guilty.

If trooper Wooten broke the law why didn't Palin provide a sworn statement as requested (page 5 of the report). Why was the trooper not offered the process that our nation is supposed to guarantee every citizen?

"Innocent until proven guilty" is how our legal system works but Wooten was denied this and that's the problem.

Palin's behavior underwent the due process and the outcome is guilty.

For the people complaining that some are 'ignoring the fact that he tasered his 9 year old', if you actually read the information on all the news media about it, it clearly states: ""I believe their frustration was real as was their skepticism about whether their complaints were being zealously investigated," Branchflower's report says. "The irony is that the complaints were taken very seriously, and a thorough investigation was underway. However, the law prevented the Troopers from giving them any feedback whatsoever."

So, as you can see, an investigation was already underway but, apparently, the Palin's couldn't wait, and now, here we are.

Yes, she didn't violate any law, but she did violate the state ethics act. Now, you can spin that as many different ways as you can, but in the end, she did something wrong. Just as McCain was found not guilty in the KEating scandal, but was censured by his colleagues for using poor judgement.

Palin has been talking all week about Obama's 'blind ambition', his questionable associations, and the campaign has been questioning his character.

Well, it's time for the McCain/Palin campaign to look in the mirror

Why is it that some of you have to resort to name calling? Can't you make your point without them? You have no idea who you are addressing. The only thing you know about the person that is posting a comment is a couple of lines of an opinion.
Do you think that jumping to outrageous conclusions based on a very short comment helps make your point?
