In response to NO MO O's comment:

You're a real piece of work...

Meanwhile tuition costs for AMERICANS go up and the state has a billion dollar debt but Patrick plays Santa Claus with our money.

BOSTON -- Gov. Deval Patrick wants to allow some illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates to attend Massachusetts state colleges and universities.

A senior administration official tells The Associated Press that Patrick will send a letter to the state Board of Higher Education on Monday instructing schools to grant the resident tuition rate to illegal immigrants who obtain a work permit through a new federal program instituted by President Barack Obama.

The official requested anonymity because the letter had not yet been delivered.

The Boston Globefirst reported on the new program.

To qualify for the program, immigrants will also have to meet all existing rules for admission to the colleges and universities, including academic requirements.

It was not immediately known how many immigrants might benefit from the program.

They are not illegal immigrants. They are the children of illegal immigrants- and they are still residents of the state.

    There is a big difference.

so because their parents are criminals WE have to subsidize them?

Is it fraud to pretend to be illegal to get all the freebies?

What difference does that make? We subsidize the kids who's parent's don't take care of them all the time. We subsidize the children of murderers and drug dealers all the time. Besides do you know how state tuition works? Its not coming out of your pocket so don't worry about it.

You are already paying their education to get thru high school.  From what I understand these kids will be offered the in state rate for state colleges.  So why no let them continue thier education of which you have been paying, and now get them to pay.

Many classrooms in state colleges are not full anyway.

Even state college is not free; while in-state tuition rates are cheaper than out-of-state rates, tuition and fees are still expensive.  The logic for extending preferred rates to residents is the same for all residents.

Is the argument against due to undocumenteds attending public college or just the lower tuition...?

The children of undocumented immigrants should not have to pay for the sins of their parent(s) by being denied an education.

They are not only undocumented, they are here illegally.

Who do you think is more appropriate to pay for the sin of the parents:  The parents, the children, or the taxpayer?

Okay Matty. The state is broke. The country lies on the brink. These people don't belong here. They don't accept or contribute to this society. They have the highest crime rate. Tuitions are going up.

Why don't the parents (you know.. the real criminals) bear their responsibility instead of me?

It sends the green light to everyone outside our borders to invade and be rewarded for it.

You know this is all political. A backdoor way to buy the hispanic vote for generations.

Less and less of the colleges' funds come from the state, so they increasingly get it from tuition and fees which everyone pays.  Taxpayer funds go to the schools regardless of who is attending them - hence the public part.

Of all the things we could do to children of illegals, teaching them is hardly the worst and - by definition of the public mandate - serves to benefit the state as a whole to have skilled educated workers.

The rest of your post is merely jingoistic paranoia, political though the issue may be.

A double win for Barry... he buys voters and keeps HIS teachers unions employed and over paid.

    He sho can dance.

Teachers employment numbers are way down since the recession and are a big part for both why the unemployment nut is tough to crack and why public sector payrolls are down compared to the private sector.

We need more teachers, not less...unionized or otherwise.

But I missed the part where either Obama or Patrick are running for their respective office again...when does that happen...?

And how does teaching illegals translate into overpaid teachers...?  When did you make that up?

How many fewer techers would we need if we didn't have millions of little Joses to teach?

Better for them to be in the classroom than out on the streets.
