Can you imagine the possibilities for dripping satire about  this situation from the progressive's favorite comedian, the acerbic Stephen Colbert? The supposed comic genius who, we are told,  is not partisan but a intellectual giant who attacks both sides?

The Southern angle would be big, of course...perhaps showing a picture of a gap-toothed hick with a pickup truck,  in a tuxedo,  attending the swearing in of the new Congresswoman...

Well, two problems prevent the progressive hero Stephen Colbert from a long insulting riff about "America's Most Wanted" going to Congress...

1) The Congressional candidate whose ex-spouse was featured on "America's Most Wanted" is a Democrat...

2) The Congressional candidate whose ex-spouse was featured on "America's Most Wanted" is  Colbert's own sister...

The comedian is not making comedy of this situation, but , surprise, is using his show to talk up  his sister's candicacy continuously , and is also fundraising for his sister.

Kinda funny, aint it?  Colbert pretends to be a right wing talk show host like O'Reilly...

If O'Reilly tried to abuse his position to push his sister's run for Congress, Colbert would have made such fun out of it !

Over the weekend, the WWE introduced a new wrestler/manager character, "Zeb Coulter," who used his time at the mic to commemorate President's Day and attack illegal immigrants. This enranged the Internet, as obvious attempts to enrage the Internet seem to do. Alex Jones lept on it first. Then Glenn Beck, who retains a (surprisingly boring) radio show and a subscription-based video channel, got angry about it.

The WWE isn't about to bait Jones, or give him airtime, but Beck's another story. His attack warrants an invitation "to appear live this Monday on Raw," and a patronizing explanation.

Similar to other television shows and feature films, WWE is in the entertainment business, creating fictional characters that serve as protagonists or antagonists.  To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines.  WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view.  This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20% of our audience.

If we're inexorably falling into a "moment" of talking about this show, let's give Beck some credit: The WWE is endorsing the pop culture consensus that opposition to immigration reform is 100 percent motivated by racism. Conservatives don't have all that much pop culture backing them up on anything -- gay marriage, birth control, increasingly even support for Israel. And now they've lost WWE, the organization that brought us the Iron Sheik.

The marketing-savvy WWE may be on to something....how about a steel cage match for Glen Beck!!!
Can you imagine the yuppie politically correct, anti-violence anti-bullying NPR progressive snobs buying front row tickets in the Arena for the WWE no-holds-barred deathmatch, with signs saying "KILL BECK" and screeching at the top of their lungs..."HIT HIM WITH A CHAIR!"

There's one big reason Colbert hasn't run with this: Does the term EX-SPOUSE mean anything?

Or are Dems guilty by association even though they divorced someone?

Ya can't get much further away from someone than divorcing them and kicking them out of the house.

 

Sure, whatever you say...Colbert wanted so badly to make light of a Democrat, and his sister, to make funny jokes...but he just couldnt, because she was divorced from the "America's Most Wanted"felon...and Colbert is fastidious and subject to strict rules about comedy, cant cross such lines...

 

So if his sister was only 'separated' from her celebrity felon, he would have had a long acerbic comedy skit about the "professional judgment' <snark> of his sister .........

Colbert's only strict rule is that he must tell jokes that make liberals feel good about themselves...and reinforce their core belief that all conservatives are stupid.

Yet Colbert had no such qualms in 2009, dragging the sad saga of Mark Sanford thorgh the mud, not concerned with Sanford's wife and kids...all in the name of comedy. That is fine by me....but Colbert should be able to take it as well a dish it out....

Colbert is not a real comedian, he is a partisan tool.

Sanford was current news, he left the state and even his staff didn't know where he was, save for the lie that he was hiking, by which they meant having a sexy encounter with his mistress.  Hell if that is your standard then pull up the endless cracks Colbert made about John Edwards, but dredging up something that clearly has nothing to do with his sister as a politician is ridiculous.  Maybe if she got divorced because she cheated, was on drugs, or some other personal failing that caused her marriage to fail I would be with you, but comparing her situation to Mark Sanford is just stupid.  They are nothing alike.
