    In response to WhatDoYouWantNow's comment:

In the short time since Pope Francis became leader of the Catholic Church, his every move has been scrutinized for signs of what his plans could be for his rule. And while his focus on austerity and the world’s poor has excited many who thought the Church was too out of touch with reality, traditionalist Catholics have been devastated. Francis’ decision to wash the feet of two girls, including a Muslim, during a traditional Holy Thursday ritual “has become something of the final straw,” writes the Associated Press. For traditionalists, it was a clear sign that Francis has no intention of continuing Benedict XVI's efforts to roll back reforms that were brought in after Vatican II.

The Thursday incident is seen as particularly serious because Francis flouted Church law when he washed the feet of the two girls. The traditional foot-washing ceremony reenacts the way Jesus washed the feet of his 12 apostles during the Last Supper, and the Church has long said women can’t participate because the apostles were all men. Some were quick to question whether the move could be seen as the first step in opening up the Church to women’s ordination, although the Vatican has cautioned against reading too much into every little move. Yet there is no getting around the fact that until Francis, no pope had ever washed the feet of a woman, or a Muslim for that matter, on Holy Thursday, notes the Wall Street Journal.

The pope washed the feet of two Muslim teenagers Thursday—a boy and a girl—in a move that observers quickly said could mark the beginning of an openness toward the Muslim world that could change how the Vatican is perceived, points out the AFP.

Just how much Francis plans to change in the Vatican should start becoming clearer after Easter Sunday, when he will begin naming top officials.

The new Pope thus far has, thus far, been both surprising and refreshing. I think he may be exactly what the Catholic church needs at this point in its history.

That would be one of the broader arguments in support of something you oppose: gay marriage.

    Consider reconsidering.

I love gay people, I do.  I want them to be whole.  Pursuing this progressive path of affirming is not the way to do it.  It is harmful, IMO.

But, you will not hear this, sadly.  you will strain at every opportunity to push on me whatever you heard from Hollywood or some other bastion of politicial correctness  about how bad christains are.  That's OK.

Washing the feet of women during Holy Week is nothing new within the Catholic Church.  It is about time a Pope did it.

Doesn't appear any traditionalists on BDC have an issue with this.

    "Traditionalists doubly outraged"

Maybe you don't understand that this states that the behavior belongs to all of the named class, "traditionalists"

    Sound familiar? It should....

    " Liberal progressive tolerance"

You aren't so good with English so maybe you don't understand that this states that the behavior belongs to all of the named classes, "liberal" and "progressive."

Reading comprehension is difficult for you apparently.  The Associated Press and Wall Street Journal made the report that "traditionalists" had concerns about the practice.  No one is claiming traditionalists on the BDC have a problem.  But those lefties are still up to no good, right?

Re: Pope washes feet of two muslims, one female.

The Church has to make changes if they want to keep adding Catholics.  The all boys club has been changing over the years.

Washing the feet of women and non catholics is a "foot" in the right direction.  I missed Holy Thursday and Good Friday Mass this year but did attend the Easter Vigil.  I enjoy the vigil mostly because Sunday services are packed.

Attendance is low in the church, espeically the Boston diocese.  More churches will be closing within a few years.

I think this Pope will also address the issue of women in the priesthood.

Your logical abilities are waning.  WDYWN made the same claim in his own words.  Matters not what others thought.  HE WROTE THE LINE.

Is his line so unclear that it is left open to interpretation?  Apparently so.

Actually, maybe you didn't pick up on this. Beer before noon clouds your head, after all.

I quoted a Slate article, which, again, twice used the term "traditionalists." Slate wasn't writing about BDC traditionalists. I'm sorry you folks think you're the center of the universe....

Hahaha...nice spin. BECAUSE he didn't specifiy "BDC" traditionalists he is therefore including all traditionalists.

So then...do you disagree with "his words"?
