    Reagan Vs. Obama

As Newman pointed out, a new poll by Quinnipiac says voters think Obama is the worst President since WWII and Ronald Reagan is the best.  From a policy stand point, I don't think they differ too much.  I think the main difference is style - a strutting Cowboy Vs a skinny nerdy black man.

I think they have more in common from a policy standpoint that they are different.  Staying away from rhetoric, how are they similar/different.

    Same:  Record Deficits,

Same: inherited a bad economy and improved upon it

Same: Increased the size of government.

Different: Reagan saw 250 Marines that he sent to Beirut die from a terrorist attack, Obama saw 4 state department employees die

Same: Negotiated with terrorists/Sponsors of Terrorist - Reagan Sold Arms to Iran, Obama traded for an American

Similar: Obama wants Immigration Reform/Reagan Gave Illegals amnesty

Different:  Reagan gave birth to Bin Laden/Obama killed Bin Laden

Different: Reagan had a huge Tax increase (largest in the Nations History)/Obama had tax cuts and Taxes under Obama are lower than under Reagan.

Different:  Reagan invaded Grenada (such an accomplishment) Obama left Iraq.

Similar:  Weed started to become legal under Obama, Cocaine use sky rocketed under Reagan

Similar:  The Reagan Admin was plagued by real scandals.  The Obama Admin plagued by made up scandals.

Different:  Gays were left to die fro AIDS during Reagan Admin, Gays are allowed to marry the person they love under Obama

    Did I forget anything?

Let's get real. Obama is giving aid to terrorists as a matter of policy. He is basically on their side.

Reagan vs Obama? You are a masochist....  the best vs the worst.

Reagan was handed a bigger mess than Obama. When Reagan took office, unemployment was 10.8 percent; inflation was 13.5 percent; the prime interest rate was 21.5 percent. The economy was on the ropes.

When Obama took office, unemployment was 7.7 percent; inflation was 2.7 percent; the prime interest rate was 3.25 percent.

    The economy was sputtering.

Reagan took action immediately. In his first year as president, Reagan pushed Congress to pass across-the-board tax cuts. He cut nondefense spending and trimmed regulations. There was a brief economic downturn as the administration reined in monetary policy to crush inflation, but after only two years Reagan’s work was done. The economy took off.

When Obama took office, he took a different course. Within weeks he championed the nearly $1 trillion stimulus. He turned to tax increases, government spending, and more regulation. He primed the pump with hundreds of millions in quantitative easing. After five years, the Obama economy is still sputtering.

So how do Reagan and Obama compare on job creation. Reagan’s job trajectory was a steady climb upward to meet the demands of a growing population. Obama’s job trajectory was a steady slide downward as millions left the nation’s workforce.

What about the growth of the economy? After only two years in office, growth under Reagan averaged 7.1 percent; after two years of Obama, growth averaged 2.8 percent.

The Reagan recovery lasted for more than two decades. It produced unprecedented economic growth and millions of jobs. What will be the legacy of Obama’s so-called recovery? So far it’s anemic economic growth and the loss of millions of jobs.

Reagan inherited an economy that had bottomed out.  Obama inherited an economy that was in a nose dive.  Reagan inherited a healthy banking sector.  If the economy was a car, Reagan's was in need of a tune up and a few dents hammered out.  The car belonging to the keys Obama was handed had a blown engine, a drop transmission, 4 blown tires, and no spare.  And Gomer Pyle was his mechanic.

    Obama saved the economy.

Technically, Reagan was in partnership with terrorists in training (Osama bin Laden), terrorists in Central America (you call them freedom fighters, everyone else calls them Death Squads), and future Axis of Evil (gave weapons to Iran and supported Saddam).

did I mentioned how Reagan enacted the largest tax increase in history and granted illegal aliens amnesty?

tax increases, amnesty to illegals, 250 Marines killed by people he gave weapons to.  What has Obama done that even comes close to that?  Cocaine use sky rocketted, he did nothing to stop AIDS.  His wife believed in astrology and employed an astrologist.  And he suffered from dementia while in office.

And he was followed by Bush, who was inept at foreign policy that he accidentally gave his blessing to Saddam invading Kuwait.

almost forgot one, Reagan got the economy going using Keynesian policies.  Sure, he called it Supply Side, but it was Keynes.

Reagan vs Obama? You are a masochist....  the best vs the worst.

Reagan was handed a bigger mess than Obama. When Reagan took office, unemployment was 10.8 percent; 7.5% and falling; inflation was 13.5 percent; the prime interest rate, which is linked to the federally-controlled federal funds rate, the cutting of which would eventually drive the Reagan recovery, was 21.5 percent. The economy was on the ropes. had posted 8 straight months of jobs gains.

When Obama took office, unemployment was 7.7 percent and climbing, posting 798K jobs lost the month he was sworn in, 4.4 million in jobs lost the year prior, with no end in sight and no jobs gains in a year had; inflation was 2.7 percent; the prime interest rate was 3.25 percent.

The economy was sputtering. had fallen off the cliff.

Reagan took action immediately. In his first year as president, Reagan pushed Congress to pass across-the-board tax cuts. He cut nondefense spending and trimmed regulations. There was a brief economic downturn an economic catastrophe as the administration reined in monetary policy to crush inflation made no changes to the monetary policy, which was to keep the interest rates high to battle inflation, which had been falling since 1978, but after only two years Reagan’s work was done Reagan began to reverse his own policies. The economy took off.

When Obama took office, he took a different course. Within weeks he championed the nearly $1 trillion stimulus. He turned to tax increases cuts, government spending (though nowhere near Reagan levels), and more regulation. He, left with a federal funds rate of an impossible to cut to stimulate zero %, primed the pump with hundreds of millions in quantitative easing. After five years, the Obama economy is still sputtering not what we have been accustomed to after 30 years of living bubble to bubble.

So how do Reagan and Obama compare on job creation. Reagan’s job trajectory was a steady climb upward to meet the demands of a growing population weaker than Carter's and Clinton's, contemporary presidents from opposing parties. Obama’s job trajectory was a steady slide downward as millions left the nation’s workforce stronger than Bush's, a contemporary president from the opposing party.

What about the growth of the economy? After only two years in office, growth under Reagan averaged 7.1 3.5 percent; after two years of under Obama, growth averaged 2.8 1.2 percent (so far).

The Reagan recovery lasted for more than two decades until the recession of 1990. It produced unprecedented economic growth and millions of jobs. What will be the legacy of Obama’s so-called recovery? So far it’s anemic economic growth and the loss of millions of jobs. preventing the suddenly thrifty GOP from completely destroying the economy they pushed to the brink.
