    REFORM GUN LAWS NOW.

Explain to me why a suburban housewife in an affluent community, living with a "mentally unstable" son, feels the need to and has the right to possess an arsenal of automatic weapons that would equip a small militia or an Al Queda cell?

Explain to me why civilians need to own assault rifles?

Explain to me why we continue to pander to the NRA?

Every other week there is a Mass shooting in the US.

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Let the slaughter of 20 innocent children, be the catalyst for change!

She has the right to possess such a gun because congress didn't renew the assault weapons ban.

Explain to me why civilians need to own assault rifles?

Because they can....because congress allowed the ban on assualt weapons to lapse

Explain to me why we continue to pander to the NRA?

You'd have to ask congress that question

    Dear Santa,

With all this violence in society I'd really like an AK47 for Christmas. I would feel safer with it in my home to protect my children.

    Thanks Mary

Cookies and milk will be on table.

you're such a dick.  Kids are dead and you're making jokes.

Why do I get the sense that you're attitude would be different if your 6 year old son were killed by multiple gunshots from an Assault rifle.

Kind of ironic that you would want to own the very thing that caused you fear in the first place.  Also kinda ironic since owning a gun puts you at a greater risk of dying from one.

Let me add to the why civilians might want to own an "assault" rifle.  If I lived in Chicago on the south side, I would definitely want one, as a pistol is fairly useless in that environment for personal protection.  The bad guys on the south side have no problem getting these types of weapons illegally.

Ya, because every whacko wingnuts union boogeyman, the teachers are now the ones the wingnuts want to arm. How ironic.

Does that include hazardous duty pay as well?

Apparently the one thing the whacko wingnuts agree on is that teachers are the sanest, most mature people to handle their childs safety in the face of heavily armed gunmen.

    Fvcking ridiculous.

    [/QUOTE]

Well sure...if one is a moron. I was around guns growing up and was never in danger of dying from said guns. Mainly because I would never point a gun at myself and pull the trigger. One would have to be some kind of special a55hole to do that. And no, I'm not talking about people who commit suicide. I'm talking about the accidential shootings that occur all too often.

Nor did I or any family member ever point a gun at each other and pull the trigger. Again, some kind of special a55hole would only do that.

If people are stupid enough to do things like this then one way or another they were going to die stupidly with or without a gun.

    Re: REFORM GUN LAWS NOW.

    In response to Newtster's comment:

You libs need to start thinking clearly about this.

We have a RIGHT to bear arms. It is not about need. Do you need to write nonsense in this stupid newsboard? No. Should we take that right away because some people think you don't need it?

The mother of the Newtown Nut appears to have been irresponsible. When one person abuses their rights does that mean we take it away from the vast majority that are responsible?

The problem here is not the gun. It will not be solved by banning assault rifles. THat will only change the weapon of choice. The kooks and schizos will find what they need to go out in a blaze of glory.

Will you be satisfied if we ban the assault rifle and kids still get killed but by some other weapon or means because YOU HAVE WASTED OUR FVCKING TIME WITH THIS GUN SHIITE???

How many gd gun laws do we already have that are not enforced? What good is another one. THe assault rifles are already out there. You can try to confiscate them if  you want and what does a thinking person know? That the criminal element and the whack jobs will hold on to theirs. That leaves the rest of us as unprotected targets. You people are the dumbest basterds on the planet.

Can we start with protecting the children from psychos first, THEN deal with the assualt rifles??

Don't you realize once you put a ban on assault rifles that the ones that are currently out there magically disappear?

I actually have no issue with a ban on assault rifles. But I also realize that banning them isn't going to solve the issue of people neddlessly dying at the hands of these nutjobs. As you pointed out they will pick from the many other guns that are available.

    Re: REFORM GUN LAWS NOW.

Getting back to the subject yes we need reform.

The gun show back ground check loop hole must be closed; up to 40% of guns are sold this way.

    There should be different levels of permits;

    hunters,

    enthusiast shooters,

    home self defense

    carry permits, and the

    highest level of collector enthusiasts

Each of these levels would authorize ownership of differenct types of guns and require various levels of training and recertification training including a psych evaluation for the highest level that would include assualt rifles.

It's a citizen's right to possess guns and its the governments obligation to ensure that gun owners are legitmate holders of permits for various types of guns.

Besides ensuring that people with guns are trained and evaluated we do need some restrictions on some guns and magazines matching the level of permit

Only the non-standard magazines above 15 rounds should be restricted to the highest level; these include the 30 round magazine used by the Gabby Giffords shooter and the drums.

We need to keep guns away from those not allowed to have them whether that be due to lack of training, precluded by past felony or the medically and/or pschologically unfit.

We currently have this in place in MA.

CLASS “A” LTC: Permits the purchase, possession and carrying of all ammunition, handguns, rifles, shotguns and feeding devices (both large* and non-large capacity). This is the only license that allows the carrying of concealed handguns-either loaded or unloaded.

CLASS “B” LTC: Permits the purchase, possession and carrying of all ammunition, non-large capacity handguns, and all rifles and shotguns (large* and non-large capacity).

FIREARMS IDENTIFICATION CARD (FID): Permits the purchase, possession and carrying of non-large capacity rifles, shotguns and ammunition only. Restricted FIDs are also available
solely for the possession of mace or pepper spray. Applicants for the restricted FID are exempt from the education requirement.

You need a license to hunt (believe this is true for every state).

Handgun licenses also have restrictions based on qualifications; for example I don't own guns but I do have a handgun license with the restriction: Sport and Target No Conceal Carry

Others who qualify in this state can get a Conceal Carry permit. Only certain people/professions qualify in this state. Doctors and lawyers, business owners, law enforcement officers to my knowledge.

    Re: REFORM GUN LAWS NOW.

Here's a free market solution some conservatives will love:

If you want a conceal/carry permit, fine.  You MUST register your weapons with local law enforcement and clearly indicate which guns may be carried.

Then, by law, you must carry a minimum $1M strict liability insurance policy in case you accidentally discharge the weapon or shoot an innocent bystander while 'defending' yourself.

Same goes if you possess guns in a multi-family dwelling or in a neighborhood in which houses are so close (proximity rule) as to be susceptible to errant gunshots.

    Personal responsibility, y'know....

As for assault weapons, limit their ownership to firing ranges/gun clubs only and allow them to be rented (like bowling shoes) if people want to go shoot a few hundred rounds and get their kicks.

Stop pretending you know (or care) one whit about Chicago's south side, m'kay.  Your derision toward that community and others like it is well covered.

OTOH, thanks for implying that gun violence is the same whether it's in Newtown, Chicago, L.A., or Nassau County.
