I didn't like the bill either, but its fascinating that we now think of 60 votes as the "required" number of votes to pass anything.

So, the constitution doesn't matter any more, and this is how it just works by default now? Everything is always an automatic filibuster?

At what point do we make these creeps actually debate indefinitely (without break) to earn their filibuster?  Put it up on CSpan for all to see.  Silly games.  Any Senator who can't handle majority rule should not be elected to another term.

End the filibuster forever and vote to get rid of it

Yes Sen Brown joined a few of the last remaining fiscal conservative Blue Dog Dems to kill the Stimulus II Bill.  Twice as much didn't work the first time, so why do we think it would work this time.  We need a different leader and plan.

BTW, passing bills is supposed to be hard.

The ARRA - one-third of which was tax cuts - DID work; it just wasn't big enough to match the scale of the damage.

Neither of these points are disputable.

Yes they are disputatble and are disputed all the time.

It didn't work which is why we are where we are.  The current plan is a joke; it was a fabricated political response.  Even the Dems are lukewarm to it, or voting against it.

Some aspects have value and should be debated and voted on, but it is not an integrated plan.

    Go for it.

But "where we are" is only tangentially related to the ARRA, of which I would ask you to demur further:

IF the ARRA didn't work, as you claim, and one-third of it was indeed tax cuts, then why would any amount of tax cuts work this time??  As it is, the extension of the '01/'03 tax cuts last December seem to also have had no positive effect and have only increased the deficit.

Tax cuts and money to protect public sector jobs didn't work before and it won't this time.

We first need an government policy environment that fosters job growth; like cutting through over regulation, create a sense of stability in government finanacial actions, the appropriate tax cuts and maybe a sprinkling of well thought investment in infrastructure that is truly shovle ready and has long term value; repaving and signs can wait.

The Dems killed Obama's bill because they knew it was just more of the same failed policies.

The jobs bill is stimulus-LITE and we know how the stimulus bill worked out.

The private sector creates jobs not the government.  A bill that takes money away from the private sector and gives it to the government to create jobs doesn't make sense.

Yes, you can't dispute liberal economists, because they are ideological theorists, and the real world doesnt impact them at all...
Even though their policies obviously resulted in economic carnage,  they will patiently explain how it would have been worse.

OK.  I'll take your word on it.  not disputable.  I'll go tell the millions out of work the following:

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, NOW BACK TO WORK

    - Agreed that so far, tax cuts don't work, so "appropriate" is undefined at best.
    - Spending on infrastructure and basic services (police, fire, school) creates more than just good public sector jobs.

More people working = more demand for private goods/svcs = more money for private companies...

And that is ignoring the many private contractors who actually perform the improvements and employ many people.  (Also why extension of unemployment benefits is one of the most direct, immediate ways to boost demand...usually for real small businesses.)

    - I would also expand the notion of "infrastructure" to mean much more than just roads and bridges.  It should also - with all priority - include our terribly outdated energy grid and supply network, communications (e.g. broadband/fiber optics), our aging transportation fleets (even air), etc....

I agree with the comments on regulation, but infrastructure improvements beyond what is actually needed, I fear is not going to help that much if at all.  What is needed is a reason for individuals to invest, spend their money.  Government infrastructure improvements don't do that.

Government project jobs are temporary.....private sector jobs are long term.

Obama in his infinite wisdom created a jobs bill that takes from the private sector and feeds government.

He lives in opposite world and killing America.....either he is dumb or his actions are deliberate.

I don't think he is dumb.

Yes...private companies that have very little say in how the project is managed.

you do realize that the multiplier effect of most government infrastructure improvements is less that 1, and in most cases is not even measurable.
