Re: REPUBLICANS KILL OBAMA'S JOBS BILL!!!!

It was a good bill which was going to repair some very bad roads.

It was a no win for Brown.  His decision to kill the bill will hurt him next election.  In addition to it not being a special election, and having an opponent people actually like, Scott Brown is in for a close race.

In Response to Re: REPUBLICANS KILL OBAMA'S JOBS BILL!!!! : Ummm, 'private power grids' are a national security issue. I would argue they're more important than roads and bridges. The failure of the electrical grid would have more far-reaching effects than the loss of a road or bridge. Unless you have a way to ensure that private companies maintain the grid to certain standards and effectiveness? Current grids are being pushed to capacity and rolling brown-out and full blackouts are more and more common.

Public Utility Commissions control these private utilities.  Regulations control the reliability and government regulations also hinder the ability of utilities to upgrade and expand and NYMBY rules everywhere.

NH residents are blocking the Northern Pass Project which is trying to cut a swath through the State from Quebec Hydro to Mass to provide clean power. None of it benefits NH, so there is a push back.

In Response to Re: REPUBLICANS KILL OBAMA'S JOBS BILL!!!! : The ARRA - one-third of which was tax cuts - DID work; it just wasn't big enough to match the scale of the damage. Neither of these points are disputable.

Hey . . .    this is kind of fun.

In Response to Re: REPUBLICANS KILL OBAMA'S JOBS BILL!!!! : The fact that private utilities are regulated by local utility commissions doesn't make them any less of importance to national safety and security. Having a patchwork of utilities and commissions haphardly maintaining a national electric grid is both inefficient and ineffective.

The internet is efficient and effective,  yet highly decentralized. Decentralized works, and works well. Decentralized power works well too, though not uniformly well.  this is the big thing for liberals.  Everything has to be uniform and under direct government control.  All equal-like.  So, we will all not have enough power, so everyone can share in the lack of electricity.

Are not road repairs ALREADY in the budget?  If not, why on Earth would you allow the same people to create this obvious oversight spent ANOTHER half a trillion dollars to sort of address the problem that their incompetence missed in the first place?

Supporting grid upgrades through regulation and permitting are a good thing, providing money, bad.
