    Republicans make a counter offer!

Of course the WH immediately poopooed it but, at least they are talking!

House Republican leaders on Monday made a counteroffer to President Obama in the fiscal cliff negotiations, proposing to cut $2.2 trillion with a combination of spending cuts, entitlement reforms and $800 billion in new tax revenue.

The leaders delivered the offer to the White House on Monday with a three-page letter signed by Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), and four other senior Republicans, including Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), the party’s just-defeated vice presidential nominee.

The White House rejected the offer as insufficient in a statement released about two hours after Boehner made the offer public. White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer in a statement said the GOP proposal was unbalanced on the key issue of taxes on wealthier households, and that it also lacked detail.

Re: Republicans make a counter offer!

...and why isn't the GOP plan a compromise?

Let's see Obama campaigned on $800B, now he demands $1.6T based on his 2.5% mandate, actually much less if you look at the margin of victory in the swings states a few million votes the other way would have changed the outcome.  The house offers up a series of initiatives that gets $2.2T, but its not good enough.

The fight over the top 2% tax rate really won't get a lot of money but its gets Obama his political talking point.  The extra tax most likely won't help nor hurt the economy it just lets the government decide where the money goes, which after all is what the difference of opinion is all about.  Is this a private enterprise recovery or is it a government subsidy.  I'd rather see us teach a few fishermen.

Entitlement reforms simply pass the cost to the individual.  For every dollar cut in medicare, the public will see a corresponding increase in health care costs.  In other words, cuts in Medicare are really a tax increase primarily on seniors but also on you and me as well as businesses.

It's so touching that the righites are willing to take a hit in their wallets to protect the wealthy.  I'll never understand why the righties are so quick to sacrifice themselves so that people like Donald Trump can have another jet or Mitt Romney can but another vacation home.

In a recent poll Americans overwhelmingly blame the wingnuts for this problem.

Republicans  are waiting for a plan from Obama that is more than raise taxes 1.6 trillion and give me the authority to raise the debt limit as much as I want!!

"House Republicans are proposing cuts to Medicare and a reduction in Social Security inflation rates. It does not include any key White House demandssuch as raising the debt ceiling or raising tax rates for income above $250,000, which has been one of the points President Obama has pressed most.

The counteroffer includes $800 billion in new revenue, which would come from closing tax loopholes. The White House proposal would raise $1.6 trillion, mainly through rate increases for the wealthiest Americans.

The House offer also includes $600 billion through health savings, and $300 billion through other discretionary budget cuts"

     Some compromise.

    [/QUOTE]

Obama asked for double 1.6 trillion what he campaigned on 800 billion.

The killer was his asking for authority to raise the debt limit with out congressional approval.

No compromise and take his whole cake and theirs too!!

Forget Obama and Boehner or dems and republicans!

The US enonomy needs more govt revenue for short term fiscal balancing and reductions in govt spending for long term economic stability and growth.

"WE" the US citizens need both of these "parties of public servants" to do that! Serve the public, by finding ways to compromise and get the job done!

Right now they bank on dems blaming congress if nothing gets done and republicans blaming the President so; they have no real skin in the game!

We the people need to contact our perspective reps and demand they find a way or we will find others that can!!

One side (voters/dems/repubs) can not do t with out the other.

They are relying on us blaming each other and staying divided!!

Are you refering to that "killer" process for raising the debt ceiling that was crafted by Droopy-dawg McConnell and passed by wingnuts during the last debt ceiling debate?

So again, the wingnuts propose legislation that changes the debt ceiling process, the PouTUS accepts the change, but now the whacko wingnuts want to rescind that same policy change that they, themselves created.

    Geepers you wingnuts are ridiculous!

Will you wingnuts at least grow a pair and stand by what was agreed to previously?

Why bother negotiating with the wingnuts if they can't/won't honor their last commitments?

You are a total and complete tool!

Its not about democrat or republicans!!!!

Its about fixing the mess both parties have gotten us into in a way tht satisfies the people.

The PEOPLE overwhelmingly want to increase revenues to the govt by the govt taking more from the millionaires and billionaires.

The PEOPLE overwhelmingly also want the govt spending cut; not reduced growth but, actually cut the waste, fraud and abuse.

The govt officals we have now have no reason to make any hard choices because they KNOW they can just blame the other party and their constituents for the most part will follow suit and nothing gets done!!

get off the partisan sidelines and demand your party (not you per say but repub and dems) do your job and find compromise!! Dont be a tool and enable their inept and unaccoutable behavior to continue!!

I have called every one of my reps and demanded they find a solution that has both real cuts to govt and real tax increases for billionaire and millionaires!
