Right wing politician who threatened to shut down the government the most times

Imagine! This pol must surely have been sent packing by the voters, for such an act as threatening the liberal's God of Government.  Moderate Republicans must have been scared  that this conservative would be very unpopular and prevent Republicans from getting elected.

During the Reagan administration, the government spent the most time on the brink of government closures. Steven Hayward writes in The Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution 1980-1989;“Unable to agree on a budget, Congress passed a “continuing resolution” in November to keep the government running at current levels. Reagan cast his first veto and briefly shut down the government, in a pattern that would repeat itself much of the next six years

It was a battle that began from the onset of the administration and spanning the administration’s two terms. As historian Gil Troy writes “During the first two months after his January 20 inauguration, Reagan, with his chief lieutenant David Stockman, launched the Budget Battles as the Reagan Revolution’s opening salvo.”

The most remembered government shutdown in the Reagan Administration was in 1981. Tien explains that “President Ronald Reagan’s administration used the shutdown guidelines the following year when Reagan vetoed a continuing resolution that resulted in a three-day broader government shutdown.” (149) After short closures in 1981, 1984, 1985, and 1986, the government again faced similar situation in 1987 a closures were averted.

Reagan compromised but didnt cave on principle...sadly, his successor did, GW Bush  listened to the Beltway crowd, and paid the political price for raising taxes.

    Date(s): Oct. 6, 1990.

Issue: President George H.W. Bush, backing up his campaign promise that he wouldn’t increase any taxes, vetoes a budget for 1991 that includes a tax increase.

Result: Government is shut down through the three-day Columbus weekend.

Resolution: Bush signs a continuance over the weekend but ultimately agrees to a tax increase by signing the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act on Nov. 5.

    Time: Three days.

kelldog1's precious government has been "shut down"! Poor little Kelldog1.

Take some Xanax and calm down. The world is not coming to an end.

Since the sticking point seems to be Obamacare, why don't you send off an email to your beloved President and ask him why he has a problem with a one year delay of Obamacare when he has postoponed most of it and granted 12000 exemptions.

The damned thing is going to be delayed anyway since the bunch of bumbling bureaucratic b00bs can't get anything to work.

I believe that librual icon and Massachusetts favorite Tip O'Neil shut down the government several times, once over the "fairness doctrine."

    Can you imagine?

Why did you skip over the most recent shutdowns in 1995 and 1996, which combined lasted for 28 days?

And yet the country didn't crumble into ruins like the way some on the Left are acting it will now. Combined 28 days and we all lived through it just fine. Hasn't been 24 hours yet and the world is going to end according to some libruls. Sigh...............

You are arguing against your own strawman, no one is claiming the world will stop spinning and dogs and cats will lie together in abominable congress.  But the fact is the longer this goes on the more negative effects will trickle down to the average american.  First 800,000 people being put on furlough all at the same time is a pretty big deal.  The cost impact mesured in terms of slowing GDP growth become more and more real as each day goes by. A long shutdown could cut growth by at least 1 percent if not more.  People looking for FHA loans to buy a home won't be able to obtain funding, futher hampering the housing market, small business looking for government backed loans won't be able to get funding further hampering the job market, folks who rely on programs like WIC will not be able to get access to the program putting the weakest members of society at more risk.  there are very real consequences for this legislative dysfunction.

So, where do you stand on:

Obama refusing to uphold the immigration laws?

Obama unilaterally adding to the ACA through executive orders?

Obama delaying parts of the bill he deems necessary?

Seems like you and Obama can't even follow the law, or the constitution.  I suggest cleaning yourself up before casting stones.
