Senate Republican Leader Launches "Weird" Video By Ways of Attacking his New Democratic Opponent

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is doing the typical Karl Rove trick -- trying to get re-elected by distracting voters.

This week, he released a video attacking his new Democratic opponent. Not by disagreeing with her on issues like Social Security, but instead...by putting her face on Ellen DeGeneres's body and rhyming things with her name.

In sharp contrast, Secretary of State Alison Lundergran Grimes is making this election a referendum on McConnell's "28 years of obstruction" -- killing strong Wall Street reform, the public option, and a minimum wage increase.

Nothing they suggest actually rhymes with her name...... except "rhymes". Oh, and her name of course. But that's not really rhyming, is it?

    jed,

    Thanks. Really appreciate it.

Didn't that work out well for Gomez.  And ny the way, it was was Bob Nelson (D-NE) and 8 of his D friends threat to filibuster the public option that killed it.  The Dem senate yanked it entirely.

Jis ad does seem quite silly though

    [/QUOTE]

No, it did not work out well for Gomez. And you are correct about Nelson, etc.

Ad is pretty silly, even for a politician. McConnell does have a history, surprising given his position in the Senate, of getting re-elected in his home state.

So, yeah, I can only think of several things that rhyme with "Grimes"

    Times

    Dimes

    Limes

    Crimes

When it comes to whatever ad agency produced this, one has to wonder what rhymes with "stupid".

    jed,

LMAO!!! Have to try an online source to see if ANYTHING rhymes with "stupid".

Could be one of those super duper SAT/Scrabble words?

More like the aging McConnell,,,aging as in those screaming for term limits... gave the thumbs up since he is barely over 50% in the polls right now. Within the margin of error you can call it even out there.

    Poor Mitch.

Rhymes with...switch, as in switch that seat from a R to a D. Oh my oh my.

I think it is safe to say that McConnell doesn't consider his latest opponent to be a credible or serious threat to his reelection.

    Damian,

McConnell has always had a rather hard time getting re-elected. At 71, he has now been in 30 years. There are those of the opinion that he, among others, are walking symbols for term limits and what is wrong with Congress.

As the below analysis states, Democrats have a very strong desire to defeat McConnell in 2014. He may have a war chest, but Grimes should have no problem raising sufficient funds in the battle for the seat in Kentucky.

In his five Senate elections, McConnell has only once topped 55% of the vote, and Democrats, touting polls that suggest a close contest, consider McConnell vulnerable. But he has a large war chest, with $8.6 million cash on hand at last check. McConnell raised $20 million for his 2008 re-election, a cash haul that he's expected to top this time around.

The Democratic strategist says Grimes and her allies can stay competitive when it comes to the battle for campaign cash: "You cannot overestimate the desire among Democrats to defeat McConnell. There is nothing that unites Democrats more than wanting to beat McConnell. He's sitting on a mountain of money, and I'm sure he's going to raise millions more, but McConnell's going to need it because Democrats are going to have the resources to take him out."

The ad wars in the race started even before McConnell had an opponent. Pro-Democratic groups already went up with ads earlier this spring against McConnell.

Two weeks ago Senate Majority PAC and Patriot Majority USA announced they were spending $250,000 to go up with TV, radio and digital ads, as well as a new website, to argue that McConnell's been in office too long and that "it's time for a switch."

"Our strategy remains to highlight how after 30 years in Congress, McConnell is out of touch with Kentuckians and he is the symbol of everything that is wrong with Washington," says a source with knowledge of the group's plans. "We plan to continue our campaign using all the tools necessary (paid media, digital media, social media, web presences, etc) between now and the election to hold him accountable."

There once was a lady named Grimes

Whose opponent was famous for whines

    but once nominated

    his ryming was fated

    to seem like poetical crimes.

    (sorry)

    SB,

    Why "sorry"?

I am no poet...at least not one who rhymes... but I like it.
