Shell Oil's Major ScrewUps Get It Banned From Drilling In The Arctic

- Just posting this in support of a reference I made to it in the gas price thread. Point being that finding the oil and extracting it safely and prudently are two separate matters each with lots at stake. It turns out that some of the technology Shell used crumpled like an empty beer can in the harsh conditions, and they had to be rescued by the Coast Guard at considerable expense to the taxpayer.
Now, that doesn't mean there won't ever be drilling there, but the suggestion to have a third party audit the drilling plan in advance seems like a more-than-reasonable compromise.

As we continue to push the limits of technology to get access to resourses in the most inhospitable places on the planet these types of incidents will continue to happen. Even though we have mastered deep sea drilling all of the infrastructure and investment can be undone by poor quality control procedures as we saw with Deep Water Horizon. And for something like drilling in the artic government should be partnered with private companies, because for profit motivations typically result in disaster when costs are inevitably cut to drive profit to the bottom line.

Results matter, and screw ups have consequences...hmm
Like massive screw up of $5 billion down the toilet for failed Obama promise for 1 million electic cars on the road by 2015..
Like massive screw up of Solyndra and other failed green energy scams...
So, then, after Shell Oil gets banned for its failure,
Let's BAN the Government from the green energy business, it is a flat failure and has no clue.

Gas prices are now dropping because some oil companies decided to restart their shuttered refineries for "summer blends". Load of craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.
