I think the republican leaning states would be even happier if their Fed taxes were lower and they dealt with financial choices locallly.

    What the...??!!

Ya, I guess they aren't happy until they pay nothing in fed taxes while suckling on the welfare teat of federal largesse.

So...you think LOWER taxes is the same as NO taxes??? Sigh.....

Republican-leaning states get more in federal dollars than they pay in taxes.

    Mostly True

Federal dollars spent in these states are primarily farming/ethynol subsidies and military expenditures.

My point and you know it, is that the republican leaning states would be happier if there wasn'ta large teat of federal largesse.

First of all, the states themselves don't pay federal income taxes, it's residents and businesses pay the taxes.

Second, who is forcing these sanctimonious wingnut hypocrits to take this money? Does someone have a gun to their heads?

Finally, it's freakin hilarious that you are now projecting your anti-welfare thoughts onto the wingnuts states, the same states that are the biggest takers. Funny how you have a completely bass ackwards view of individuals who are on welfare, especially considering that individual welfare is limited to 5yrs while wingnut welfare queens keep getting more and more of the peoples money.

"It would give their position a lot more credibility (and would provide a good test run for their voters to see whether they'd put their money where their principles are) if they refused federal largesse and then campaigned on shrinking federal government."

The usual BS that accepting one cent from Uncle Sam means you cant criticize the federal monstrosity...the federal government is taking powers away from states, it is hard not to knuckle under to the Nanny State ...

At least 5 GOP Governors refused the pork of the stimulus money... Florida and Wisconsin refused wasteful high speed rail money...

At least 18 GOP Governors are refusing to implement the disaster known as ObamaCare...

In poor white West Virginia, Obama got 62% of those making less than $30.000 but just 39% of those making more than $100.000. In other words, those WV Appalachian "Rednecks"in the biblebelt south that the media loves to demonize and portray as Republicans on closer observation turn out to vote Democrat. The pattern is the same across all Red States.

This paradox that poor states vote Republican while poor Americans vote Democrat may be too subtle to understand for angryman..

Geepers, will the lies never end?

But at least five Republican Governors are saying thanks but no thanks to some of the $150 billion of "free" money doled out to states...

They all took some of the stimulus money, just not the money that would directly help their citizens.

For example, on Meet the Press yesterday, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana told David Gregory that he would turn down $100 million from the federal government to extend lapsed unemployment benefits for out-of-work Louisiana citizens.

Funny how in W, Virginia, the one county where he had the best showing of 47% was also the richest county in the state.

The counties that Mittens won by the widest margin were all the poorest counties in the state.
