Texas routs Massachusetts in US News ranking of best high schools

There are more than 400 Texas schools in the U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 rankings, including the School for the Talented and Gifted, the top-ranked school in the country.

TAG is part of the Dallas Independent School District, about 200 miles from Austin and roughly 250 miles from Houston.

Massachusetts high schools? Only 76 made the list...

    Texas... 400+

    Massachusetts 76..

Mass. moonbats will of course brag about how much more tax dollars are spent on education than Texas...the quality doesnt matter, apparently.....that is the Massachusetts moonbat way...spend more, get less...

I noticed that TX doesn't have one college or university in the top 40.

The best they place is #46.

Seems the high schoolers from TX have to leave the state if they want to continue their exceptional education.

Concerned Citizen is strenuously spinning numbers to argue that Mass. high schools are equal to Texas high schools.
    How the mighty have fallen.
No wonder so many thousands are fleeing the People's Republic of Moonbatachusetts, for private sector jobs, lower taxes,  low housing prices, and good schools, in the new South.

Ah, so the rising  Texas schools have caught up to the sinking schools in Mass.

In another year or two, Texas will be looking at Mass. in the rear view mirror.

Wow..so a high school which caters only to gifted and talented students has the highest ranking in the country? I would think there was something wrong if it didn't. Unfair to include this school really..since they don't deal at all with the kinds of issues most public high schools do on a daily basis.

Can't say that since Boston Latin school  is a public exam school

Apples and oranges. The Texas Gifted and Talented High School has a total enrollment of 240 students. Boston Latin has a total enrollment of more than 2300. The admission requirements are somewhat different. If you really want to compare apples to apples..then you would need to take only the top 10% of Boston Latin. The Texas school is very elite and more kids get turned down than get accepted. This is not the case with Boston Latin..who tries to give as many students as possible a chance at an outstanding education. I'll take the school who gives opportunity to as many students as possible over the school that only takes a portion of the top 1% of students in a district...and then only those who pass behavioral assessment and other psychological screenings. In MA we don't allow any public school to base admission on any of those criteria. Also..the Texas School doesn't deal with any degree of special needs students.

I am not saying that the Texas school does not provide a great opportunity for a small select group of students...I am simply stating that their reality bears little resemblence to the reality faced by the majority of public high schools.

If you were really honest about your politics..and put some thought into the rankings..this would be your takeaway. Smaller classroom sizes result in a better educational opportunity. Smaller classroom sizes means hiring more teachers..but as most of the right wings extremists have stated time and again..teachers are evil..money sucking public employees..you know..the takers.

    Not really...not per se...lol

It is more a case of pointing out that if you're going to inject politics into public education...to place those politics in the right focus.

Oh please you idiot. The percentages are barely different.

Percentage of Mass. High schools on list:  76/296 = 25.6%

Percentage of Texas high schools on list:  400/1445 = 27.6%

According to the schools reviewed by US News report, they are statistically tied:

    TX: 1,870 high schools, 410 on list  = 21.9%

    http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/texas

MA: 358 High Schools, 76 on the list = 21.2%

    http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/massachusetts

The data kinds of flies in the face of the Northeast's and Massachusetts snobby attitiude about southern schools and Texas in particular.  All the extra Mass and college educated population hype doesn't buy Mass any advantage over the likes of Texas.

That is an example the political divide in our country that only helps the politicians that help create it!
