Domestic Oil production is up from 2008.  If for no other reason that the price of oil is way, way up, making formerly unproductive oil wells productive.

oil production did drop in 2010/2011 but it was due to the blown oil well in the gulf

but regardless of how much oil we produce, it will not reduce the price of oil.  Any increase in oil production in the US can be offset by reductions in production by the Saudis.

you want lower oil prices, lift sanctions on Iran.

Toss up. Obama predictably came out fiestier, more coherent and angrier and looked like he was going to pop a vein towards the end of the debate when Romney tried to interupt him. The pension line was classic, and Romney's Binders full of Women line was just bizzare. Romney is a good debater so you knew he would not change styles tonight and I think that hurt him a bit, but he still did well enough to satisfy his base. I would still like to hear some actual specifics from both candidates other than sound-bites on how we need to reduce the deficit and the need to create high paying, good jobs. I'm not sure either candidate moved the ball all that much. Crowley did a good job.

Romney was on the ropes after the Libya question, and then he blew it.  in his final comments, he alludes to his 47% comments.  He doesn't just open the door for Obama to actually say 47%, he leaves Obama no choice but to talk about the 47%.  Terrible ending for Romney.

    romney was rude and pushy.

he hurt himself with female voters.

obama hurt him on Bain, hurt him on China.

he stepped in it on Libya.

Everyone agrees oil production is up but it is inspite of empty chair and his policies which has issued less permits to drill on private land or at sea.

The production is taking on private lands or on public lands from wells that were issued permits during the Clinton or Bush years.

It takes an oil well ten to become productive with conventional drilling after being issued a permit.

Hydrofracking on private lands is largely responsible for the increased production despite empty chairs EPA regualtions attempting to stifle it.

Obama tried to shut down the hyfrofracking in N. Dakota's Bakken shale (private land) for a migratory bird. N. Dakota is booming, can't find enough people to fill all the jobs.

He also deep sixed the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Plain and simple he is an absolute bold faced liar whenever he tries to imply he is responsible for the increase in domestic oil and energy prouction the past 4 years.

The truth is there would be much more without him standing in the way.

Was amazing to me to watch this man stand and lie to the American people knowing that he is.

The President did a great job of bringing Romney to task for all the blatent lies and flipflops. Romney was outmatched this time. No comparison

Romney's fantasy "5-Point" tax plan is going to do him in. It just doesn't add up. When Obama renamed it a "1-Point" plan to simply hand over more money to his super rich cohorts, it rang true.

Then, to be called out as a shameless liar on the events following the Libya incident by an independent journalist in front of millions of American voters is devastating.

I listened to most of  the debate, watched only the beginning.  I think Obama did better than Romney, but:

Crowley was a disgrace, clearly favoring Obama and limiting Romney.

The questions were stupid, and liberal leaning, which is to be somewhat expected, but:

Given a moderator that largely protected and helped Obama, and questions that give Obama the ability to claim that Republicans are killing children and turning them into gasoline,  what do you expect?

The entire event was a sham.

Obama used the "big Lie" approach.  Obama lied through his teeth, couldn't defend the past four years, and has no plan for the next four, outside of "trust me".

BTW:  Romney was right on Libya.  Even Crowley has had to walk that back this morning.

Obama can't win if he can't lie, eh?

All Obama had to do was move his lips and the media would declare him winner.

A couple things I noticed ,Obama had no comeback when Romney critiqued his administration's involvement in fast and furious. Turned into Mr. Church mouse and let that discussion die quickly.

The press focus on Obama's response to Romney asking if he had looked at his pension, was on Obama's reply that it wasn't as big as Romney's.

But none of them echoed Romney's following point which was that Obama also has investments in the Cayman islands and China in mutual funds as part of his pension plan the same as Romney does which Obama and the left has been excoriating him for. Obama continually tried to interrupt Romeny so he couldn't make that point.

Yes it was a spirited debate and the President came to compete.  He look strong to over bearing on style by failed when the fact checkers reviewed his answers.

Libya - the President played fast and loose with his terror statement, when he actually wanted us to believe it was all about a stupid movie.  Nice work by Candy Crowley in throwing the President a life jacket.  If this was football there would have been a penalty for too many men on the field.

Drilling on public land; Romney was strong on this point that production was down as well as number of leases; and he was correct.  The President either categorically lied or he didn't know - both are failures of leadership.

China investments - The President thought he had a gotcha moment on Romney's China investments in his blind trust but Romney got the President when he pointed out that he had China investment too.  Obama's snipe that Romney's portfolio was larger was once again a statement of envy.

Over all the President woke up and competed; too bad for him the fact checkers point out his lies.  On both sides the partisans claim victory; the engaged independents will see the lies, the unengaged independents were swayed by a savvy snake oil salesman from Chicago.

Young Dem women didn't like answer.  Conservatives and indies did as it reflects equality of workplace with traditional values.  This is why Mitt's gender gap has gone away.  Life looks different when not viewed through a liberal value prism.

No matter how forceful Obama was in his statements and no matter how much he obfuscated in his follow up when pressed by Romney the fact checkers gave Obama a big pinochio on this.

Romney said leases where down by half; it was actually 42% and Obama lied or worse didn't know!!!
