Posted by 12-Angry-Men
Paul Ryan had a complete plan; there still has not been a complete Democratic plan.  Given that the Dem's had no plan they should have entered into a conference to resolve issues, all they could do is reject it.  Rejecting isn't leadership, unless it followed with a counter offer and it wasn't.

The Ryan Plan was detailed and passed a House vote.

Ryan's plan was also similar to Reid's in which it figured the wind-down of the $4 trillion iraq/afghan wars...an accounting gimmick isolated to neither party.

In a sane world, Reid's plan would be a conservative's dream: all cuts and no tax increases AND more savings than boehner's plan.

However, with the tee partee holding the gop by the short ones, "sane" is but a memory.
In Response to Re: The ongoing battle for the heart and soul of the republicant party rages on......... : I guess you didn't read anything about threats to downgrade if we do not raise the debt ceiling. This is different then the independent threats to downgrade if we do not have a reasonable plan for addressing debt in place by 2013.
    Posted by WhatDoYouWantNow
I read the actual reports.  the Globe has this wrong.  The primary issue in the downgrade is the size of the debt, and our un  Read it.willingness to address spending.  The debt ceiling is at best an ancillary issue.

That's what the S&P report states.
The Tea Partiers are to blame! Yes! They were in power in 1964 when they forced Lyndon Johnson to spend money on the Vietnam War and the War on Poverty at the same time! They forced Reagan to spend money on Star Wars and kick the can down the road on Social Security! They forced Congress to steal the Social Security surplus and spend it! And the Tea Party forced the media and both parties to lie about it and pretend that an IOU from the government was just fine. They forced Bush 43 to invade Iraq and Afghanistan! They forced Bush and Congress to pass the "under-funded" Medicare Pharma Plan! They forced Congress to pass TARP/TALF, etc and give billions to banks! They forced Obama and the Democrats to pass Obamacare and the Stimulus Plan! They forced the FED to take on $17 Trillion in debt and bad assets! Now they are being just down right mean. After spending all that time making the mess, the Tea Party hands it off to Obama, the Democrats and the country club Republicans and says - live within your means. Yea! The Tea Party  - it's their fault!

So when your beloved whacko wingnuts add it to a budget bill to make it more palatable to you and your t-baggers, you jump up and down like a school girl waving your pom poms. When a Dem uses the exact same scoring, even at a lower and more realistic number, then it's a gimmick. BWAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Man you are such a freakin tool !!!! Do you have to bend over when you contradict yourself like that. Your 'breath' must smell terrible.  BWAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Hey pal, you owe Joe an apology.  He has been very even handed, and responsible in his comments.  I disagree with him, but he is always the gentleman.

So I apologize partisanjoe, for allowing my consternation and frustration affect the tone of my posts. I withdraw anything you may have found personally objectionable.

So, why do you respond with such hyper partisan blather and insults all the time?  I lay out positions, as does Joe, and you think it serves your ppoint ot call us idiots and the like.  Ithink it is you who needs to check the time on your own clock.

If nothing else this exercise in futility clearly shows the absolute lack of power by the speaker of the house....no other speaker in our country's history has been so weakened by fringe elements of his own party. The neo-con facist tea-partiers have brought the moderate republicans to their knees and the American middle class will again be shouldering the costs at the expense of the 2% who continue to recieve tax breaks..............thats part of what the tea-partiers stand for.............

Don't pretend that conservatives don't like power as well.  They just want the power in different places.  Conservatives don't like liberal power, power to help those that have too little, the ones denied civil rights.  They like to keep their power and use it as they see fit.  Power, of course, is money.  Altruism of selfishness?   Which is the better motivation?
