In Response to Re: This is how you win a War : Speaking of Al Qaeda, they are moving into Libya: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/libya-intelligence-shows-flickers-al-qaeda-u-20110329-074729-524.html

    Makes sense for them.
Move to turmoil and stir the pot. A new battle ground is born.
Happy birthday Libya. So much for real estate prices there.

It will be Obamas Iraq !

In Response to Re: This is how you win a War : Are you feeling OK? I didn't listen to Obama's speech. I heard snippets of it. It seemed as though he accepted the concept of what we did in Iraq, it was just that we did it wrong and it cost too much. One thing that liberals should consider about what Obama did in Libya - he has lowered the bar for using military force in a political sense. - There does not have to be a threat to our national security - It does not have to be in our national interest - We can go to war if our allies want us to for their purposes - You do not have to consult with Congress before you act - Humanitarian principles are enough to use military force and the criteria for doing so are up to the Executive Branch

Why ask if I'm feeling OK?  That I have failed to say what the few BDC ultra-cons expect me to say by virtue of having labeled me a "progressive" or "liberal" (whatever those mean) would not surprise an objective observer.

    One problem is the label.

Another problem is individuals' tendancies to think that if I am attacking someone else's extreme statement, that means I necessarily adopt the opposite extreme statement.  Perhaps I think both sides are being stupid but don't want to bother laying out a manifesto on my principles applied to all possible scenarios.

I am quite troubled about a number of things Obama has done.

In Response to Re: This is how you win a War:
In Response to Re: This is how you win a War : Except that Bush & Co. severely underestimated the historical sectarian divides within Iraq and the fact that the secular Ba'athists - however abhorrent - had kept that animosity at bay for decades. Also, at that time, everyone knew Afghanistan was the proper theater for the war on terrorism and said so, vehemently.  Iraq was a blunder from the word 'Go'. But OK, if it's not a good comparison, then there's no good basis with which to compare the approval of congress for both scenarios then, is there??

The poor comparison is that Obama thinks things through first and that Bush just reacts to things. Like no thought was even given, Bush just wanted a war, right? And Obama, he ponders all sides first before he acts. Pure bull!!

Not that I have a problem with trying to kill him.

Of course....   then you've got the issue of who will replace him and the apparent evidence that Al Queda members/supporters are amongst the rebels whom we are assisting.
