My thoughts are with these firefighters as well as they battle that fire on Beacon Street.

Thinking of you SisterSledge as your comrades battle this fire on such a horribly windy day.

Firefighting is a tough job ..... Thanks andiejen but the members of BFD and their families need your thoughts more than me.

I had family members on the BFD... was just curious. My grandfather was captain of the fire-boat ....uncle was a lieutenant.

I just heard two members have passed..... what a horrible day. Cry

    Very sad day, Sister.

Besides the death of the two firemen, 18 people have been taken to hospitals so far in this 9 alarm fire.

I heard two memebers of the BFD on D&C this morning. Tough not to get choked up listening to them talk about how things went down and then having to tell the families of the two fire fighters that didn't make it out. Sad day.

    Heroes to the end.

Michael R. Kennedy and Lt. Edward J. Walsh.

Lt. Edward J. Walsh, 43, of West Roxbury and firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, 33, of Hyde Park were among the first at the scene of the fire.

One a father of three, the other a Marine veteran.

Kennedy's body was pulled from the basement about 30 minutes into the inferno. He was pronouned dead at MGH.

Walsh was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters recovered his body about 7:45pm and carried him out the back of the building to an ambulance on Storrow drive, with fellow jakes forming an honor guard, helmets in hand.

In addition, 13 firefighters suffered burns, broken bones and muscular injuries.

Mayor Walsh said," A day like today makes us all too aware of what they are risking in the course of their jobs."
