Two firefighters shot and killed while responding to Webster, N.Y. fire

The NRA will blame the Firefighters and say that we should arm them too......

    ====

A shooter set a trap and shot and killed two firefighters responding to an early morning blaze in Webster, N.Y. Two other first responders were serious condition.

"It does appear that it was a trap that was set for first responders," said Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said describing the scene where shots were fired at West Webster firefighters when they arrived at 5:35 a.m to battle the blaze along Lake Road in Webster, which is about 10 miles west of Rochester.

The apparent gunman was found dead in an area outside the scene, but it’s unclear if he was killed with a self-inflicted gunshot or if it was from a weapon from a police officer who was chasing him.

The two injured firefighters are in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds, a hospital spokeswoman told the Democrat & Chronicle. The newspaper reported firefighters made their way across a bridge to get to safety.

They were volunteers too. The NRA wants to arm the volunteer firefighters.

Good one! Skeeter knows that the shooter is probably a member of that terrorist organization known as the NRA.

    Same assault style

weapon as at Newtown.  Tough situation when the crazies are better armed than the police.   How many more deaths before the fringe people give up their embrace of military style weapons in civilian hands?

I guess its the NRA's fault that this guy was let out of prison after 17 years for killing his grandmother with a hammer.

The NRA isn't at fault for letting him out of prison .  But what is sick about NRA is that they are blaming anything else but guns for these murders. The NRA doesn't have any credibility left when it comes to gun safety.

Sister: If you were payuing attention to what the NRA actually does you whould know that they are ALL ABOUT gun safety, that is one of their major purposes. That isn't the issue though. Blaming the gun after a shooting is like blaming the car in a fatal drunk driving accident, it just doesn't make any objective sense.

The real issue is making sure that we take care of the mentally ill members of our community in a compassionate and caring way and making DOUBLE sure that the criminally insane among them do not ever have a chance to live our their sick fantasies on innocent people.

What is so hard about the following proposition: If assault weapons with high capacity magazines are illegal, it is probable that in some of these incidents, less people will die?

If you disagree can you please explain why?

    Reloading takes time.

An assault rifle is more accurate than a handgun when used with a minimal degree of skill.

An assault rifle does siginficantly more bodily damage than a handgun at the range we're talking about.

An assault rifle is more dangerous to responding police than is a handgun.

    What's so f**king difficult here?

Then, compare that to the necessity for people to have AR-15s. There are tons of weapons used for self-defense (the core of the 2nd Amd). There are tons of weapons used for hunting (a side benefit of the 2nd).

There is zero necessity for the availability of assault weapons.

This is a basic pragmatic calculation: There is some likelihood of reduced deaths from an assault weapons ban. There is no need for assault weapons in civilian hands.

The conclusion seems clear: Ban assault weapons. Simultaneously, consider other avenues to catch the crazies before its too late.

    No.

But what it is like is blaming a bartender for continuing to serve someone who is completely sozzled, who the bartender knows drove in and will drive away, for a fatal drunk driving accident.

Republicans are too blind to see that America wants stricter gun control after what happened in Newtown. And they wonder why they can't win an election.............

Once people start to understand that the NRA is a lobbying agency for gun manufacturers..then perhaps public opinion will change. Before the NRA garnered such widespread support in the GOP...the general interpretation of the second amendment did not support broad individual rights to own guns..especially assualt weapons. If you take the second amendment in the context of the time it was written, the meaning becomes crystal clear..that the second amendment is intended to authorize a militia ( military).

However one feels about the right to bear arms...adding more guns to the mix is not the solution. The numbers don't lie..and the numbers state that the more guns there are in a society..the more gun deaths.

Good post, miscricket. The NRA also is a paid shill for ammo makers. There was a time when the NRA was respected because they were all about gun safety. They weren't so politically crazy like they are now. We didn't have Bushmaster assault rifles when the 2nd amendment was written. We didn't have 30 round magazines. I'm not suggesting taking away hunting guns and guns for protection at home. But Bushmasters are basically combat rifles. And why can't people register their guns like they do their cars? Our country has the most guns and the most gun deaths. Perhaps that is the GOP/NRA utopia?
