When you do the opposite of what you should have done in the first place, it causes a result that is not favorable.

Post 9/11 Bush cut taxes and SHOULD have cut spending.  It got us out of a recession very quickly.  Had he cut spending too, the result would have been even better.

This President is looking to increase taxes, lowered none, and added more to the national debt than ALL past Presidents COMBINED!!!!  The spending is out of control and the dems are answering the call with TWO huge tax and spend programs with Cap and Trade and Deathcare.  We are truly in a lot of trouble.

Government doesn't create wealth, it takes it away.  WAKE UP!!!!  This is so simple.

no, no, no...when the number of people filing for unemployment for the 1st time drops by a quarter of a percent from one month to the next, we're on a path to a full recovery with prosperity just around the corner.

    THAT's sarcasm.

    Why didn't the stimulus work?
It did work as intended, it paid off public employee unions, and state Governors. It was never focused to  create private sector jobs!
    NY Times:
"Although President Obama initially said that 90 percent of the jobs created by the stimulus program would be in the private sector, the data suggests that well over half of the jobs claimed so far have been in the public sector. They include the 325,000 jobs in education, including teachers, administrators and support staff, as well as many of the 73,000 other jobs paid for with education grants, many of which were in public safety."

"In June, the federal government spent $1,047 in stimulus money to buy a rider mower from the Toro Company to cut the grass at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Arkansas. Now, a report on the government’s stimulus Web site improbably claims that that single lawn mower sale helped save or create 50 jobs."

The stimulus was nothing but a 787 billion dollar payoff by Obama to public employee unions, and state governments. By liberals, for liberals. Bigger government.

The deficit for fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, came in at a record $1.42 trillion, more than triple the record set just last year.

With no fanfare and little notice, the national debt grew by more than $4 trillion during George W. Bush’s presidency.

It’s the biggest increase under any president in U.S history, until Obama!!

On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. That’s a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush’s watch to $9.849 trillion.

Under Obama with just his initiatives in his first 90 days has a projected additional debt of $9 trillion in the next ten years.  This doesn't include Deathcare or Cap and Trade...or anything else!!!

The stimulus bill alone is costing us $100 million in interest, daily.

These numbers are staggering....Bush was really bad...Obama eclipses him by TRILLIONS!!!!  Obama makes Bush look like an amateur when it comes to spending.

So, either the government is capable of creating jobs, or it isn't....

When unemployment goes down, it's the result of "private sector investment", but when the unemployment rate goes up, it's all Obama's fault, right??

Some of you guys don't even know how to define your arguments any more, do you?  Some of you whine constantly about keeping gov't out of private industry and/or not depending on government for anything...and yet you admonish government for not doing that very thing you don't want them to do??

I seem to recall the Prez stating very clearly at the beginning of the year that unemployment would reach 10% by the end of the year.  So, who out there is still surprised by this news?

And here's the rub: if the Prez is not doing anything to solve the problem, as suggested here, then the opposition is doing less than nothing to solve the problem.

Matty, there is NO opposition.  NONE!!!  It's all Dems all the time.  Republicans have ZERO say in anything.

The government creates jobs by getting the FFF out of the way.  Less government....less taxes...less spending....it enables the rest of us to get on with our lives.  If Obama and Pelosi took less from you, you could buy more beer, get that hot tub you've been eyeing, upgrade your TV, buy a new Monster Truck and put up that new fence to better contain the dog.  No extra money for Matty...no money for the businesses that you support.

I know you get it.  What makes people wealthy and healthy???  The government or private industry??  When the gov'tment makes jobs they do it at the expense of taxpayers and growth in the private sector.  10%...Obama sold us the stimulus by using the fear tactic that if we didn't do it, we would see double digit unemployment.  Ooops.

"Obama Sees 10% Unemployment Rate, Chides Wall Street Critics

By Julianna Goldman and Rich Miller

June 17 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama offered stern words for Wall Street and a prediction of 10 percent U.S. unemployment even as he said the “engines” of an economic recovery have begun to turn.

“Wall Street seems to maybe have a shorter memory about how close we were to the abyss than I would have expected,” Obama said, referring to criticism of the government’s growing role in the economy and markets."

In case you haven't noticed, Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros. were precisely the result of government "getting out of the way".  They failed and tens of thousands of people lost their jobs...never mind the ancillary effects of those job losses snowballing into the rest of the economy.

I get more than you realize.  I happen to work for a firm which is a significant  contractor to the federal government...y'know...like Raytheon or Lockheed.  My company is in good shape mostly because of excellent, disciplined management but also because of our expertise in working with government entities.

    Politics of fear:

Obama devoted his first Saturday morning radio address to the legislation, which is to be voted on in the House of Representatives Wednesday. Senate consideration would begin after House passage, with the first action scheduled for Monday, February 2.

In the radio speech, Obama portrayed the economic crisis in stark terms. "If nothing is done, the unemployment rate could reach double digits," he said. "Our economy could fall $1 trillion short of its full capacity, which translates into more than $12,000 in lost income for a family of four. And we could lose a generation of potential, as more young Americans are forced to forgo college dreams or the chance to train for the jobs of the future."

He should have cut spending and cut taxes.....investment in America not government.

    From the WSJ:

Employment in the service sector -- the main source of U.S. jobs -- fell 61,000 in October. Business and professional services companies shed 18,000 jobs. Retail trade cut 40,000 jobs and leisure and hospitality employment fell by 37,000.

Employment in government was unchanged last month from September.

Good to know the govt hasn't shed any jobs. Soon we'll have an economy based on working for the govt. Obama's vision will be realized.
